    Hi there!
I own a Maschine Jam and Maschine Sw with the last update. I own both a MacBook Pro retina 13” late 2015 and a custom Hackintosh, both with High Sierra (last update).
Since I got the Maschine Jam, I ever had noticed a strange issue with both the two Mac systems.
Very often Maschine Jam wont’t to turn on. I did read and try to follow all the advices found on line (uninstall/install Maschine Softaware, uninstall Control Editor, uninstall/install drivers, check the task manager and the NI drivers, if they are or no), but nothing. I ever update all NI software. Nothing! Jam has the same problem. When I turn on the Hackintosh or the MacBook Pro, I have to wait for about 20 minutes circa, before Jam turns on. I did try to turn on both the systems with the NI usb cable plugged and not, no difference. I own one S49 mkII, I never had problems with it. With the Jam...it’s a nightmare, because when I want or I have to play music...20 minutes of waiting are a rule so I have to count them. Is is there anyone who can solve this problem successfully and forever?

Same laptop as me and I also have a Hack :D something very specific to your systems must be conflicting. Do you have any antivirus, firewall or similar stuff installed? Are you using a hub? Orignal USB cable?

Check Preferences > Users & Groups > Login and make sure the 2 NI apps are enabled to launch at startup.
Check Activity Monitor and type "NI" (without quotes) and check if the apps are ok (if they are not there will be a warning icon)

If it only happens with Jam and not the KKS there's a chance it's a Hardware issue.

I get this with my jam , it started around dec2017 and at that time I had a Mac mini and an old MacBook, and it was a pain because it was randomly doing it and the fix was randomly working, like reinstall, or resetting pram settings , or using the other computer to trigger it back to life ,also controller editor used to freeze as well , but I don’t use that much so I don’t know if that’s still the case . In April I got a new MacBook Pro and again it behaves very randomly, didn’t notice it at first but gradually it started doing it again .I’ve found that if it doesn’t start up on first boot , restart sometimes worked but i got fed up doing that , and noticed if I wait roughly upto 5-10 mins it will just come on , but it’s so random like sometimes it will be off then will come to life as soon as I switch my kk on but sometimes it doesn’t come on until it wants .
Im sure others have been affected but I’m gonna start a thread over at the beta forum and see if I can get a answer as to why it behaves this way.

Try resetting the pram with everything unplugged then turn off Mac and plug everything back in and boot up

So I got a reply about this , and was asked to check if jam shows up under system report /usb when it’s not working , but typically, My jam has been unplugged for couple of days , and when I plugged it in last night , it came on at start up , and the 3 times I’ve just booted my MacBook today , so at the moment I’ll keep trying .
ok it didn’t come on , and it is visible in my system report/ usb

can you check this and report back
When you start up and jam is not
working, goto about this Mac and goto system report - usb , and see if jams listed.

    Hey guys,

I was struggling with the same issue in macOS High Sierra. Deleting the MaschineJam files from ~/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Controller Editor instantly wakes up the Maschine Jam.
The Jam also started as it should after several restarts, so I assume this permanently solves the issue. I believe that it was caused by a template for LPX I downloaded and installed from the web.

Maybe this helps you as well!

Damn, I was a bit too excited. It does not solve the issue permanently, but at least it tells us that it is not a hardware issue ;)
But I found an NI tech support entry describing the issue as known and High Sierra related:
    https://support.native-instruments....ller-Editor-freezes-under-MAC-OS-10-13-en-us-

Deleting the file ending with *.lock in the above mentioned folder is sufficient to work around the issue, and your Controller editor setting will not be deleted this way.

I just added a shortcut to the folder in my Dock now, maybe it will be solved when upgrading to Mojave...

Ok, I now have a more or less perfect workaround.
I just wrote a small script in Script Editor:
    do shell script "rm '/Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Controller Editor/MaschineJam.ncs.lock'"
and saved this as a program.
I added this program to the auto run in the user settings, so it will automatically run when I log in to macOS --> no need to manually delete the files and Maschine Jam is starting nicely on each boot/ reboot.
