Hi everyone, this n00b needs some questions answered if possible. I'm completely new to using software for mixing. I currently have a Xone92 and (2) Tech 1210s.

I am interested expanding my capabilities by using Traktor Pro so that I may be able to mix digital files as well as my vinyl. Ideally this is what I would like to purchase and want to know if this would work out for me.

    My current equipment:

Macbook Pro (2.66ghz, 4gb ram, 7200rpm hdd) stock sound card
    A&H Xone 92
    Technics 1210 x2

    1. I would like to buy Traktor Pro, WITHOUT the timecoded vinyls/cds.
    2. I would like to also buy the Kontrol X1 midi controller.

If I were too purchase 1 & 2, would I be able to do the following:

    A. be able to assign faders on the Xone 92 to control the volume faders in Traktor?

    B. be able to mix from actual vinyl (no timecode vinyl), to mixing a digital file in
traktor (using the x1 in conjunction with the xone 92 mixer) seemlessly?

I'm hoping that that ONLY reason for buying Traktor Scratch Pro is for the timecode function.

Thanks for any tips/ recommendations you may have.

Hey there yolky. I have this set up and the Xone 92 only has limited midi control and the faders are not part of this limited function. I run in external mixing mode so I am only using the software for digital music files, recording, and the occasional effect. If you want to use your mixer in any real functioning capacity you will need a sound card. I run TSP and the Audio 8 DJ that came with TSP is working fine for me. Can't say anything about the X1 yet as I am still impatiently waiting for it to hit my doorstep.

    Good luck

Thank you for your feedback digital assassin, much appreciated. I will take your advice, if I decide to go this traktor route it sounds like I should get traktor scratch pro route so that I can get the audio-8. I was hoping to get around that option as it adds considerable more money but oh well, such is life. Thanks again.

Sure. I'm very happy with scratch pro. Should only get better with the X1. If you are going to switch between traditional vinyl and timecode make sure to reset/calibrate everytime you put the timecode back on. Great choice on the mixer. Couldn't make me give mine up.

Seriously if you already have turntables just buy Traktor Scratch Pro, it's worth it imo and gives you full access to all the features.

Xone 92 has no midi in the faders, actually i'm not sure if the Xone 4D has?

Yes, I would advise you to buy the whole Traktor Scratch package. Then you'll have the full options on both timecode as digital control (because you want to add a X1 to the total setup).

I have thought of one other option and I'd like your opinion on it for those who have responded or not. Given my current setup of Macbook Pro, Xone92, 1210m3ds tables, can I add: Traktor Pro (without timecode) and a Xone 2D? As I understand it, the Xone 2D has a sound card in it so I would just be able to hook this straight into my macbook? The Xone 2D would also pretty much give me full control of traktor, correct?

My only concern is this: Would I be able to mix from vinyl using my Xone 92 into Traktor Pro using the Xone 2D & vice versa? I'm not so interested at this point to add the timecode element into the equation as long as I'm able to address my stated concern.

Actually, I would still need an external soundcard for my macbook in order to hook up the Xone 2D to it, is that correct? If so, what is a reasonable soundcard someone would recommend, nothing over $300 preferably.

Well, if you just want to have an output for Traktor, then the 2D will work good for you. The 2D is a midicontroller and an audio interface which can be connected directly to your macbook.
The only thing you need to do is beatmatch everything all the time to keep everything in sync.

Being that you already have a mixer I would suggest you go with a stand alone sound card and a maybe a 1D or similar midi controller. This way if you ever want to change equipment you wouldn't have to look at the sound card aspect. Just my 2 pennies.

sorry for bringing up a old post but i have a very very very simple question that i cant get a answer to for some reason.

i am about to put the finishing touches on my digital set up. i 2 a&h 1d's, a 4 ch behringer mixer, and my MBP.
my question in relation to all this is.

I dont want to use the timecode to mix [vinyl or cdj] at all. but i want to use the full 4 deck feature of traktor and midi functions. if i purchase TSP with the audio8 will i be able to do that without issue [macbook for mixing, ect. 1d's for controling everthing, audio8 as the interface] see diagram lol

    [MBP]
    I
    I
    [audio8dj]
    I
    [1D] -[mixer]-[1D]

i know this is a very simple question but it would easy my mind greatly and make my investment into his expensive product a very happy one
    cheers :)

    Short answer: Yes
Long answer, easily possible with the Audio 8 if you want to mix externally on the Mixer. The only issue is that the 1ds are USB powered so you would need a powered usb Hub to connect them and the Audio 8 to the mac as your Mac may only have 2 USB ports. Audio 8 must go on a Mac USB port.

You can (i think) daisy chain the 2 controllers via midi to the Audio 8s Midi input which is pretty cool.

If your concerned about the USB hub, it should be fine with 2 x 1ds but if its a hassle you may want to look at a FireWire soundcard that has at least 8 outputs such as the FireStudio by Presonus.

    Hope that helps

Also, what you could possibly do is just take one of the USB connectors, like from an iPhone, to an outlet. Thus, your Midi goes through either 1 USB to laptop or to just Audio 8 .

I just started setting up my Xone 92/1D/1D last night with my Audio 8 and TSP. I currently have 1 usb externally powered, 1 Midi cable out of a Xone 1D in to another. The other 1D USB to laptop.

I am going to try to go from Xone 92 Midi 1D Midi 1D Midi Audio 8 and see if that works tonight. Power the 1D Usb's off of seperate USB power.
