Is it still not possible to do a mixed pattern creation in a DAW?

I think this is a bit harsh..

Its neither doom nor gloom, and Maschine works perfectly well with a DAW provided you follow one of several workflows.. that hardly is "workaround flow"

Maschine has by far the best DAW integration features of any instrument available. Including similar beat boxes like Geist or Ren. No other VSTi's have such robust integration features like the batch setup, host transport mode etc.

This particular issue is only a problem on a specific workflow. They don't design Maschine or any other sequencer for that matter to be bouncing back and forth between it and another sequencer while creating. This breaks the creative flow doing this and sorry but I think it's a bit counterproductive to begin with.

What is host transport mode? Does maschine play/stop ableton in machine mode (not in midi mode)? If so, how?

at risk of going a bit off topic here ... apologies to the OP ...

yet, despite owning Maschine and the entire Komplete library ... I am still not abe to use Maschine as a Komplete librarian/editor on normal DAW channels. I can easily imagine better, more innovative integration ... so can others: http://audiomodder.com/collections/all/products/push-vst-bridge (problem solved) ... why Maschine doesn't offer this obvious and basic functionality is a mystery.

I've tried working in Live with a MaschineVST channel to host Komplete VSTs (so i can use Maschine to select/control/edit VSTs) with multiple MIDI input feeds, multiple audio output feeds ... I can only describe it as very time consuming, klunky and a complete P.I.T.A. Call it what you like ...

once again sorry to stray OT ...

This is what I am trying to do as well, not all the time do I want to record in Maschine. Would I be able to use this method after I have created samples and wnt to "chop them" or record in an outside DAW? Thanks.

This makes it impossible to take advantage of the Maschine sequencer if you want to export MIDI to the DAW as you go. If Maschine is receiving any incoming MIDI (AT ALL!!!!) it makes it impossible to record a new part in another group and not record over your original pattern, doubling notes etc. if you have any MIDI latency between the DAW's MIDI out and Maschine's recording buffer. How is that not a huge hit to workfow?

Ok here is my desire (let me know if there is ANY way to achieve this) I have a song I'm working on in my DAW. I want to use Maschine in sync with the DAW to chop some breaks. That's fine, that works. I finish my pattern, do my mixing, assign my sounds to individual outputs and route them to corresponding tracks in Logic. Peachy. I want to edit and have control over this pattern in Logic to make small edits in a nonlinear way throughout my song (without having to create completely different scenes in Maschine for each minor pattern edit) so I have tracks on my multi timbral instance of Logic playing out into Maschine's MIDI channels to play corresponding sounds, and I drag and drop the pattern dragged onto those tracks. Great, everything is smooth, this new Maschine is great, it's gonna be so awesome for my workflow! This beat is rocking, in sync with my track, I can easily make variation to the pattern I created in this awesome sequencer easily in logic! Now let's create a new group for some sampled fx I recorded out of my modular and play em back at tonal intervals.. Load my sample in, edit it, map it to the keyboard, jam a little bit over the playing song.. Sounds awesome! lets record this new part! Oh no... I press record and Maschine jumps to the first group playing my chopped breaks. Impossible to record my new part now, no workaround... More importantly, NO BENEFIT to this function - it is recognized in other threads as a pure detriment and was OVERLOOKED in the last update. I'm tripping over this, makes maschine a heap of junk to me. Not planning on putting scenes together for each minor pattern variation I want, keeping track of all of these scenes and which contain which variations, then triggering all of them from Logic with no visual reference in my DAW of which parts are playing what (as MIDI notes per part give me) and not planning on using the maschine as a midi controller forgoing the sequencer, quantization, swing, nudging, loop recording, undo button, quantize button.. All the things that make it useful. If it's either or, that's ridiculous, and useless to me. I ran into this problem my first day using maschine, so I can't understand how it isn't an off the bat issue for more users.

when it comes to other groove boxes people just say it's got good workflow or not, whether they be software or hardware but when it comes to maschine there is always this in-between new category of 'maschines workflow isn't bad it's just different'
it's really taking a long time to improve maschine because nobody wants a consensus on defining it... nobody wants to say 'it should' have this or it should work like that. It's very unfortunate because almost all of the little maschine niggles could have been cleared up years ago if there was a consensus on what a midi sequencer should be capable of at this level of development

I can imagine that the next version 2.3 will have a solution! :)

    • MIDI input options have changed. "None" now actually means none (ie. no MIDI input even if the sound is in focus), and a new "Focus" entry has been added which allows MIDI input only when the sound is focused.

@modular TH: Why not make all your patterns in Maschine first then export to DAW when you are done. I'm not sure why you would want to do that while you are working.

So my workflow is. I either create the whole song in standalone mode, then go through the process of moving my patterns and sequences in my DAW, or I load Maschine as a plugin turn on host transport control and create my patterns there. The best way imo is to create the patterns in Maschine first then drag and drop them into the DAW when you are done.

Maschine's DAW integration is slowly getting better with each update. But it's not there yet. Scene automation and sound focus will be a huge help in this area.
