Is Key Lock Automatically Turned Off With Sync?

As of the most recent version of Traktor DJ, there's no way to turn off Key Lock in the UI, as far as I can tell.

Is it automatically turned off when Sync is off? Or, is it simply 'always on'?

If it's the latter, that's unfortunate. Key Lock is obviously detrimental to the sound quality of the material being played.

Quite sure it is always switched on in sync mode.
If you use a Controller (S2, or the S4mk2 which I use) then you can switch KeyLock on/off (also in sync mode), works great.

How about when the Sync button is turned off, in the iOS app? Does that disable Key Lock?

not sure i got your question:
    - with controller the sync and keylock are independent, 2 buttons, all 4 combination work. And in TDJ appears a dedicated key lock icon, see screenshot in attachment below (screenshot from S4 manual)
    - without controller you can not pitch at all with TDJ, no deck related pitch fader available, and the global master tempo wheel does not change speed of the deck as long as sync is off.

I don't have a controller which works with TDJ (I have the S5), so I hadn't see the dedicated Key Lock icon until you posted that screenshot. Thank you for that!

You're correct that there's no tempo adjustment available within TJD without the Sync button being engaged for either deck. While the Sync button is engaged, Key Lock is certainly on.
I'm wondering if Key Lock is disengaged (without a controller), when the Sync button is off (in TDJ). Reason being, Key Lock affects overall sound quality, and should be turned off when decks are playing at the song original tempo.

welcome. to your last statement (i got it now): i do not think that key lock does not matter at all if playing in original tempo, because strain factor is exactly 1.0 (assumimg the code developer understands his job and will not do any transformation in original tempo ;)) but honestly i dont know as i never saw the TDJ source code .. my ear tells me the key lock works quite well in TDJ, and in original tempo no reason to worry anyhow.

Key Lock does work well in TDJ, but it should be turned entirely off when playing at a song's original tempo. If TDJ uses the same software as Traktor Pro for Key Lock, it brings the same issues.
Traktor Pro uses Elastique, the same software which Ableton uses for timestretching/key locking audio. Elastique affects the audio quality, even when audio is played back at it's original tempo. That's why Key Lock should be something which can be turned off.

By the way... which version of TDJ are you running? I'm running the current version, and I don't have a number for the loop length. Is that another difference you see when using a hardware controller?

I am running the old 1.5.1 ..old but maybe the best version ever (no crashes, high performance), but thats not the reason i also have a loop icon only (without controller). But it is funny .. i never recognized the loop lenght , great observation ! .. quite sure thats also because controller connected. I can test with my S4 .. will let you know.

@Kalo, are you able to tell the difference in sound quality when Key Lock is ON vs. OFF?

i checked, i can't hear any differences in quality on S4 with keylock on/off (playing in original bpm, using headphones)

What's that loop arrow next to your freeze and flag buttons?

It is the 'flux' mode. when active then the song position goes straight forward in backgroud (blue position marker), after release of a loop (or after release of a jogwheel pause) the position will jump to the blue marker. It is a in app purchase option, same superslicer, must be enabled in TDJ - settings - features.
