I ask because I bought a dual 2 ghz Apple Power Mac with 1 Gig of ram running Panther for the express purpose of running Sibelius with Garritan Personal Orchestra via GPO Studio and the Kontakt Player that comes bundled with GPO. I did a test running 8 active string parts and some horns with no ambience, and my system choked very quickly, even though my Activity Monitor said that there was still at least 200 megs free on my system after loading in GPO. I set my energy settings to the highest performance setting, etc., etc. and now wonder if it's largely because Kontakt has been optimized more for PC than for Mac OS Panther. I suspect more RAM might help, but there was still RAM free on my system when it choked, which is curious. I welcome any feedback about this as it's currently quite distressing.

What energy settings are you referring to? If you're playing around with the System Preferences->Energy Saver settings, note that this is crucial for good audio performance on a G5: you must set it to maximum performance (i.e. no energy saving) otherwise it can cripple audio applications.

I'm not sure if that was the setting you were referring to.
