Forgive my ranting here....but IMO Traktor Pro is suffering tremendously.

The upgrade link on the main page has shown only 1400 hits since last week and I suspect its because Traktor Pro is such a complete mess that most people that originally thought "Oh, Traktor Pro, what a great idea!" were then completely broadsided by what a disaster it was/is/and continues to be.

Seems like most folks are thinking to themselves..."why f**king bother..."

All this heartache to go through for a couple of extra sound effects (that sound ridiculously cheezy) and various loop & hot cue features (that are really not all that different from 3.4concidering their endless limitations).

In true Traktor fashion....Traktor asumes we have to jump aboard Traktor Pro because they have completely abandoned 3.4 (even though it still needed some finishing touches to be complete)

Im beginning to think maybe for the first time that this "Type" of gamble on NI's part will completely ruin their user base.

Absolutely everyone I speak to about Traktor Pro has nothing nice to say about it.....infact everyone I know is in a state of shock over its almost un-usable state.

Oh sure their are some folks raving about it....ya know all excited cause "hey guess what!" I used Traktor Pro for two hour without a clitch......Big F**KING DEAL ...

Hey NI......if TP was some totally new interface with 1000's of new feature's that were light years ahead of 3.4, then yes I could see unveiling TP with all its bugs entact. But TP is NOT light years ahead of 3.4.....NOT EVEN CLOSE !

So again I ask......IS Traktor Pro EVEN WORTH IT ?

Pro runs perfect on my Macbbok. It's all about setting it up right. For instance, I'm no turntablist so ultra low latency is not a big concern for me. I mix house music so most of my tracks are around the same BPM, which I think helps 'cause with the keylock engaged, Pro doesn't have to try to work so hard to correct the key. I've logged many hours since the latest update and it has been 100% stable for me.
The new layout is sooo much nicer and easier to see which helps me 'cause my Mac only has a 13" screen. High contrast and easier on the eyes. Oh, and as for the effects, they are no where near cheesy. I actually prefer some of 'em over the DJM800's. So, to answer your question, yeah, it's worth it.

Dude you asked the question, some people have answered.
When it comes down to it only you can decide whether YOU think its worth it. No-one else can answer that for you.

I assume you have tried the Demo as you do make some comparisons to T3 in your post. Do you not like what you see?

    in a word, NO!

i really regret wasting 99 euro on the upgrade.

stability is good, but the main draw was the itunes integration, and cover art. then NI took away cover art in the itunes node with no warning. 2 updates later, and it's stilll not clear whether they will even re-instate it as an option.

and suddently there's talk of NI making their own traktor smart playlists. yes, that's what we all want, another level of bugs and confusion to wrestle with...

as soon as there is a viable software-based dj alternative that doesn't constantly force workflow changes on it's users, i'm gone. i wish i had more time, i'd develop an open source alternative with real itunes integration, and a development cycle driven by the users.

i am sick of NI and their sloppy/inconsistent development methods, which show disrespect for their customers. the support responses to intelligent questions and suggestions is also very patronising. their priorities are all wrong, imo.

and to top it all, there is the utterly lame 'flash and hawtin' promo campaign. so cringeworthy. how much did those guys need the money? i mean, look at the horrible 'cyber' style graphics of the product. then look at serato. look at stability and bug fixes. which is the serious and 'pro' solution?

i really wish i'd gone with my initial impression, which was 'look at that horrible piece of style-over-content hype - i'm not buying into that - time to investigate alternatives...'

    >> EDIT!

ok, that was a bit of an angry rant. traktor is still the best digital dj solution by a long way, but all the little buggy details are spoiling what should be a great product. instead of wasting time hyping and pushing out unnecessary new versions, the dev team should work at making the current version perfect. then it will sell itself through recommedation... imho, like.

Probably yes, didn't even read it all but I think I know where it was going..

Glad I upgraded, completely usable since 1.1.1, flawless since 1.1.2.

I iz win wif Traktor Pro becoz I iz Promatikz.

Bottom line if you don't think it works, don't buy it/upgrade to it. The best you can do is back up your stuff, install the latest version, and spend a week tweaking and messing around with it. If it sucks and you can't work with it, go back to the version you're used to. If it works, stick with it. Don't ASK others if it's worth it cause you'll get:

    1) Fanboys like me who have it working flawlessly and love to say it does.
    2) People who can't get it working through hardware incompatibility (are there any?), user incompetence (and there are a few), or the fact that it simply does not suit a specific person's needs (vertical waveforms etc).

In my opinion and to rehash points made before, those people whose Traktor Pro is working well are a minority here because most of us are out there gigging successfully night in and night out with it.

    "rhetorical question" folks....

This isnt about weither or not I think it works...I know it works, and ive been testing the full version(s) since the day it came out. Im currently using 1.1.2.

I have seen with my own eyes that TP is stable - and im not questioning that.

This IS about the fact that TP isnt capable of doing all that much more then 3.4.

It IS about the mointain of BS that you have to go through with TP just for a few extra features.

It IS about all the TP bugs and limitations.

It IS about NI's obvious "money making" scheme and their insistence on releasing products that CLEARLY are not ready for release.

Look people can rave about TP all they want. And if they are using the program without a glitch, then they are dumbing their setups down. And where they are not dumbing it down themselves, TP has automatically dumbed it down for them (Example - 256 MB cache size has been disabled - only two FX slots - minimal keylock quality - limited chained FX tweekability etc etc etc).

I dont ever plan on "giving up" on TP as it moves foward, however I can say with certainty, that I cant justify using it live at this stage. And I know I am not alone....

    Just my two cents...

256 MB cache coming back soon, 4 FX slots coming next update, keylock quality will be Elastique Pro next update, chained FX are for ease of use not tweakablility, that's what advanced is for. NI is trying for a balance of features and stability. There are two camps. One that wants it to be completely custom to there unique needs and those who want it basic to maximize stability and lower system strain. You can't have both extremes. To reiterate the many responses here, evaluate if you need what Traktor can do or can you get by with a more basic A/B mixing interface? It's what each individual needs to decide if Pro is for them.
The more you want to do with it, the more system resources you need.

No problems for me with keylock, 4 decks, FX @ 2.5ms on my machine. I could get away with a lesser computer if I didn't use all that Traktor can offer.

Ni needs to make money, but I wouldn't call it a scheme though.

I got TSP as a free upgrade. Free!

hey Karlos Santos perhaps you missed kindigarden class the day they read Fuzzy Wassy Was A Bear.

Cause if you were in class that day, you might understand the meaning of a rhetorical question.

    Wikipedia:

A rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question
posed for its persuasive effect without the expectation of a reply.

    So Karlos is right:

When you asked your question you were expecting a reply.

So by definition.. you're question can't be rhetorical..

I'll provide you with a good example of a rhetorical question:

Could you please spare us your whining?

In all fairness, I'll give you some credits for picking a fight with a mod..

    PS:

I just read the specs in your signature:

    Dell Inpsiron e1505 / Core2Duo 2.0ghz (4GB cache) /
Windows XP Home (completely tweaked) / 2 GB of RAM

I have never before heard of a 'completely tweaked laptop' with '4 GB cache'.
That is a lot of tweaking indeed. Impressive! You must be proud.
