Is Reaktor multitimbral?

    Hi guys,

I usually score orchestral music (written down on paper...), so I'm not very much into these nice pieces of "electronic devilries"...

But, I wish to compose some "only-electronic" piece of music, "musica aleatoria", as we say in Italian.

My question is: is Reaktor multitimbral? Inside Cubase, can I open one instance of Reaktor and load in it, let's say, 16 different instruments, as for Kontakt? If so, how?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Hi - it can be multitimbral; you can accomplish this by loading several instruments into an ensemble, then setting a separate MIDI channel for each intrument.

Thank you guys for your prompt replies!

So, after opening Cubase and loading Reaktor as Plug-in, if I need to load - let's say - 10 sounds from Mikro Prism and other 6 sounds from Spark, should I open what...an Ensemble and then the sounds I'd like to use? But, where do I get an Ensemble (a multi...) for both?

    Thanks again!

you don't get a multi ensemble, you do it the manual way by multiplying the instruments in the ensemble and then set the appropriate presets in each of the instruments separately. you also have to do all that midi routing. but! your cpu will die. 10 x mikro prism + 6 x spark vs a single instance of reaktor (thus, a single thread being used) is a onesided battle. you can only do multimbral in reaktor because it's modular and can do all sorts of things, but there are no ready-made multi-timbral factory ensembles and whatnot, you have to do all the routing yourself.

But as I said, your cpu will die. I don't think that even your fancy i7 can handle this load on a single thread. if you used a single ensemble per instance, then this scenario, of course, would be child's play for a modern multicore processor.

    Hi there,

thanks a lot for your suggestions.

One last thing. So, are you saying that it would be preferable to load, let's say, 10 Reaktor instances, each on one track and each with its midi channel?

    All the best.

i also would suggest that it is far easier to load different Instances of Reaktor on different Instrument Tracks and Different MIDI Channels.
