Hi everybody, I keep going back and forth whether I should get the s 61 if I have the maschine studio. Do you recommend it? I have the arturia keyboard 61 key. Maybe I will get the keyboard or buy more vst's lol. Thanks.

If Mashine 2.2 keeps its promises, the 2 will make a very good combination. The build quality of the KK is superior to Arturia's.

Right now the software is a bit limited and the combination with a DAW (mine is Logic) is a little buggy.

    But it has the potential...

    Wait and we will see...

The hardware is solid, fine and well designed.

terrible investment, its overpriced and value will only go down. However, I like it, and its very useful, and looking fw to the improvements, but there's no reason why this or any controller for that matter would appreciate in value like an analog synth might.

He is EXACTLY, PRECISELY, 100% correct about this. Sorry to be picky about the meaning of words, but words have meaning and the more we ignore that, the less our language will matter. Investments go up in value. A keyboard will never do this unless it was played by John Lennon or somebody else very famous who has already died.

Now, to answer the OP's real question: "Is it worth the money, and can I get my "money's worth" out of this expense?"

    Answer: Maybe, maybe not.

    1. It's worth it if you expect to use Komplete 9 or 10 or Komplete 9U or 10 U "a hell of a lot" to "always".
    2. It's worth it if you are willing to forego the features in "regular MIDI mode" for non-Komplete instruments.
    3. It's worth it if you think you'll benefit from the light guide feature, but again, that works ONLY for Komplete instruments.
    4. It may be worth it if you want a keyboard that has "hands on" features that don't require you to have your eyes on the computer screen all the time, but again, that ONLY works for Komplete 9 or 10.
    5. It might not be worth it if you use non Komplete 9 or 10 instruments for more than 50% of your work.
    6. It might not be worth it if this is a lot of money for you. This is the cost of Komplete 10 all over again; don't feel like you need to spend this kind of money to still get great use out of Komplete 10. Look at more economical MIDI keyboard controllers first. Roland makes some very good ones from the A-300 all the way up to the A-800 Pro. Shop around!

I would not buy it. There are a lot of hardware issues - for ex, I just received mine to replace my Arturia Keylab 61. The problem is that the pitch and mod strips are broken on many of the keyboards - search the forum. There is either poor quality control on the hardware or some software glitch. Either way, I would wait to hear that this has been fixed before buying the keyboard. Anything costing that much shouldn't have broken mod or pitch strips!

I'm not sure what to do. I got the S61 on black friday for about $588. I got it just sitting here. I haven't opened it yet, reading about all of these issues. I will either keep it and use it with komplete 10 ultimate/maschine studio or get a used keyboard controller online, groove agent 4, more computer ram. etc.

I haven't put my S49 down since purchasing it when it dropped! One of my best music investments.

At the very least it is an investment in NI. If you like their stuff and want more. it is good to help keep them alive..
My S25 is the best keyboard I have ever played in terms of physicality. But I never had the money to spend on the really expensive workstations; and I couldn't fit a piano into the panel truck I was living in in my early life.

The software is effective, but still has a way to go; I invest in NI to encourage them to get there....

Not only that, but ten years ago you couldn't even come close to the cost-effectiveness of their system, not to mention when I was coming of age in the '60s....

Remember the Fairlight when it first came out.. and only $15,000 in 1974 money...
