Is the Kontakt library of B or C quality? Is the library for demonstration only?

The huge content in the libraries from the first version to version 3 is impressing on the paper, but when I try to find the sound I'm really looking for I'm not able to. This happens when I want a natural/musical sound.

For a concert the day before Christmas, I made a sing back for an artist. I was looking for a natural sounding piano. I did not find that in Kontakt.

    Why?

Do NI want me to buy another product (Read: AKOUSTIK PIANO)?

I also played a Cello on top with an instrument from VSL Cello Ensemble from Kontakt 3. After the recording I was not satisfied with the sound. I then played the track through "Cello Duo" from HALionOne that's comes with Nuendo 4 (NEK). I was surprised when that sounded more natural than Kontakt.

When recording, my need is to find the best instrument ASAP that I'm looking for.
I hoped Kontakt was my answer to that need.

Get me right: I love working with Kontakt, and I've done that for years. But I always find myself around 90% satisfied with the sound...

Well it's a basic library - mostly "bread and butter" sounds imo. If you're looking for authentic natural Instruments hire a musician or invest thousands of bucks into professional libraries.
I personally like some of the world music sounds, the Tamtams and Gongs are really good, so are the ethnic flutes (if you at all need them), taikos, and orchestral percussion sounds - woodwinds and Brass are quite good too if you know how to program/play them, the String sections lack warmth and naturalism.
The synth sounds are pretty bad actually, not state of the Art at all.

You'll find verry good solo string library in IK Multimedia Symphonic Collection or in old Vitous Orchestra akai format.
The sound that are really good in K3 are some ethno instruments, the brasses from the band collectin, the brasses and percussion from VSL, the chord guitar and a few others.
The rest are not verry good sounds.

NO sample library will sound stellar "out-of-the=box." You must know this since you have been a Kontakt user for many years.

Don't rely on the bundled patches to satisfy your needs.

If you are looking for new string samples, check out sonivox (formerly sonic implants) or VSL. Forget the antiquated libraries.

Well, I do think that the quality of a library is largely a matter of opinion. Just like any other sound library or even synth that you can buy, some sounds are going to inspire you and be useful to you, and won't be useful to others.

I find a lot of useful stuff in there, personally, and I think for a bundled factory library, it's excellent. But of course there's plenty of other stuff out there and you should not expect it to be the be-all-end-all of sample libraries.

I have found a few sounds to be useful in both k2 and k3, but mostly, it's quite mediocre and I have tons of other libraries that outperforms these libraries.

Some of the pianos are quite ok, and some of the VSL stuff as well, but for the rest, I really can't say that I have found anything useful there.

Ironically just today as I had some down time in the studio I went through some of K3 library stuff. I was very impressed.
Yes it doesn't have all the articulations you want etc...... but certainly at least for me based on what else I have it will surely get the job done well......it inspired me not to buy any other new libraries until spectrasonics stuff comes out at Namm.
Personally I think they did a great job.
And if you look at MANY of my other posts, I am definitely not an NI fanboy :)
