I am going to invest in a Maschine, but i was wondering whether i should be spending an extra £100 for the MKII or just settle on the MKI ,

I have the sufficient funds, but i do not like to overspend .

Any replies would be much appreciated as this is my first venture into beat making hardware,

    Thanks, Jay ;)

it definitely isnt necessary imo. it may be more convenient since it will have a data wheel and more buttons(volume, temp, swing) but I would settle for the mkI. The color pads are something I dont need but I can see how they will be useful to some. either way youre good to make music.

I just got a mikro controller and it's a superior controller to the mkI phat, the pads are really nice. They're less opaque as well, the led lights are much clearer and the display is much more crisp but my mkI is a couple of years old. The difference is obvious when i sit them side by side though so unless the mk1 has been improved greatly since i got mine i'd say get a mikro mk1 or a mkII for the design improvements.

    My 2c.

I say wait for the new version

There's alot of MK I owners that are upset that there no crossgrade deals offer. MK II is a short way from release. The current controller will work, but most likely any developement from 1.8 forward will be designed with MK II in mind.

I say go with the newer one MKII. Because more then likely / sooner or later they will stop making updates and improvements for the MKI. I'm thinking of getting the new one myself just for that reason alone. Plus the small size makes it easy for me to carry etc and put away when not in use. (Not selling my old one though pumped to much time and effort to get rid of that. I just want to be ready when the bottom falls out for support for the old one etc).

I don't think the new controller MkII is so radically different from the MKII that the bottom has to fall out of support for the MKI, I personally will hold on to Mk1 and perhaps see if they come out with a MK III in a couple of years.

That's not to say I would'nt be interested in getting a MKII mikro as a type of expander unit used with the Mk1

    Good luck

I doubt that mkI support will be dropped anytime soon.
If you look at the new Controller Editor and view the Mikro, Maschine and the mkII units it just remapping.

NI can easily support the 4 models same as a company supports it's 25, 49, 61 and 88 key midi controllers with their varying level of control or buttons.

Nothing so dramatically different that the mkI versions have to be dropped.

Seems to goes along with why they saw no need for a cross grade from mkI to mkII.

MKII is just the hardware controller, it can't "have" anything; maschine software is the same whatever controller you use.

1.8 software won't have vst delay compensation or multicore, it is planned for a 2.x version...

    Hi,

I have a technical question about the MK 2 controller:

Does it still have LCD or does it use OLED-Displays?
There's no explanation on Native Instruments website.

Personaly I hope that they still use LCD, only inverted, as they last much much much muuuuuch longer than those OLED displays. OLED dies too fast and has to much issues.
