I am looking for a patient and knowledgable person to help me set up and learn Komplete hardware, software, and DAW integration to get the most out of a S49 Keyboard and Logic Pro on a Mac. I'm imagining 5-8 lessons over Skype (unless you happen to live in Rochester, NY). Willing to pay fair price for your time and expertise.

Background: My son is a skilled amateur musician, just getting into composition. Almost a year ago, we purchased a S49. It is connected to our Mac Pro and currently functions as a basic MIDI keyboard within Logic using only the stock digital instruments that comes with Logic. Despite watching many video tutorials, I have been completely stumped as to how get the keyboard working with the Kontakt software. We can't figure out if we have the files in the right places, and what settings/preferences we should be selecting to be able to use the different instruments we have purchased. As a result, we have this beautiful, powerful and expensive keyboard and software suite and sound library that is doing nothing more than a $75 midi keyboard could do!

We'd like to work with someone over video conference where you could provide instruction in proper set up. We'd like to screenshare, while you walk us through the software set up, and make sure we've got all of the files and dials in the right place. Anyone who can help us?

    Hey,

Not sure if you got any bites with the Skype idea. Can you post the exact issues/questions/difficulties you are having and maybe people in the forum can help with addressing those directly.

In essence the keyboard is a dumb midi device, it plays no sound on it's own. Most of the intelligence is in the software.

    Based on what you've said I'm assuming that the keyboard is visible in logic and is usable. To utilize the Komplete/Kontak libraries in Logic you will need to;
    a) install them see NI guides on how to install Komplete and Kontakt via Native Access.
    b) open the Komplete/Kontakt Libraries in logic via adding a new track and from the instruments selection pick Komplete Kontrol/Kontakt.

Hi, @SlowLoop. Kind of you to reply. I believe I have installed the libraries, following those instructions and have even been able to open them, but can't get any actual sound or figure out how to record them. I really have tried reading the manuals and guides. I think I'm at the point of needing someone to help. Maybe it's simplier than I'm thinking and just need someone to sit down with us for 1 hour and we'd be up and running. Would you be interested in doing that? As I said, we're happy to pay for time and expertise--compared to the number of hours and different people's time we'd take in the forums and potentially still not be able to do it. Thanks again, Tony

I am not going to be able to do the Skype idea, on the Logic/No sound/record i may be able to help.

    Lets take a step back,

If you open Komplete Kontrol by it self without logic and open a sound library, does this play sounds? If not. is MIDI input active, this has a section on how to enable the inputs. When you open a sound library in KK does the keyboard respond, you will notice that the screens under the knobs change.

Thank you very much, SlowLoop. Did what you suggested.
    • MIDI input is active: screenshot
    • And the program acts like there is sound coming into the computer in that the little bars move: screencast
BUT... no sound comes from the computer speakers.
    • I checked the audio output preferences and here there are: screenshot
    • I don't think it matters, but here are the MIDI output prefs as well : screenshot
Thanks again for your help, Tony

The Audio output, how are the speakers connected? Built-In means either the internal speakers (macbook) or the headphone jack. Are you using an external sound card(audio interface) via USB? You will need to select it instead. As you are getting sound from Logic, check where it's sending the sound and mimic in komplete.
