How many of you people use ITUNES to organize and TAG your songs?

Right now i am using seperate folders on laptop.

Do you find it easier with them organized in ITUNES

As far as tagging which is easier in ITUNES or In Traktor after the songs are loaded into your collection.

I would like some info based on peoples preference before i import them all to Itunes then to Traktor

    Thanks

I work with iTunes to organize my music. It works really great, actually. You can also import the complete playlists you've made in iTunes in Traktor. :)

I think it's easier to do all the tagging in iTunes, because of the smoother interface. It works more intuitive than Traktor to edit tags.

Well when i load my library to Itunes..Itunes creates a whole nother library...

so if i were to edit my songs In ITUNES they will not show up in the original folder as edited
maybe im not explaining right.... If i edit my song in their original folder then import to ITUNES it will show right..

You need to uncheck the option which enables iTunes to copy all of the imported music. ;) Because it sounds like you've got your music twice, but on different places.

    Smart playlists all the way!

When traktor has this feature I will probably stop using itunes on my dj laptop. Till then smart playlists rock! Learn to use 'em

Yes, because there's only one file that you can edit and that's the original. :)

You can find it in the Preferences, tab 'Advanced' and then you can uncheck the 'copy music to iTunes folder'.

Can someone tell me why Traktor Scratch Pro displays only a partial list of my Playlists on Itunes? I've got my music organized by different years and genres so you can imagine how many Itunes playlists I have. Now when use Traktor Pro to scan the Itunes library, some of the playlists are missing/or not showing. Anybody got this problem? Thanks for any suggestions.

    Speedyduck and forum guys,

Luckily I dont have the same problem as my playlists not showing up in iTunes. Im not sure how you would fix that as I'm a total newbie to Traktor Scratch Pro. All of my playlists appear properly in Traktor. But I do have a similar issue. Although I can see all my iTunes music listed, Traktor will give me an error message every time I try to load a song onto a deck.

    The message reads
"WARNING: The track 03 Certified.mp3 could NOT be played due to a missing or corrupt file, unsupported format or DRM-protection"

This happens for all my songs in iTunes. iTunes knows where to find all my songs (which are playable via iTunes, on an external firewire HD, copied and organised into my iTunes Music folder. All my music is one place.), are playable formats and are not DRM protected. Has anybody else had this problem of a fix for it?

@MajiKworkz , if you you load tracks form itune and recieve that message the paths to the tracks are broken. Traktor is assigned to a different iTunes Folder.
make sure that yiu have the correct iTunes folder/path assingned in Prefernces.
Are your tracks still on the ext HD ? Does traktor point to this or is it looking for the iTunes folder on you laptop

Id the path to your iTunes library in iTunes Prefernces the same as it is in Traktor ? It should be.

    Hey Karlos,

After examining my tracks in the iTunes node Traktor is showing the wrong paths. I dont know how to fix them though.

You see, all my music is on an external HD: Volumes/G-DRIVE mini/iTunes Music
My iTunes library is stored on my laptop: Macintosh HD/Users/Mikey/Music/iTunes

Although my iTunes library is located on my computer, the file references all music off the external HD. This works perfectly fine in the iTunes application.

In TSP preferences the data location section allows me to direct Traktor to the iTunes LIBRARY which has been correctly set to Macintosh HD/Users/Mikey/Music/iTunes but TSP still thinks all my music is in the same location as my library xml file which causes it not to work. Any ideas? Im sorry, for some reason Im unable to get hold of the manual.

What you need to do is add, HD: Volumes/G-DRIVE mini/iTunes Music
because that is where the actual files are kept.

Add the External HD in Preferences : Data Location/Music Folders Add

Then traktor will look in your ext HD for the actual files.

You should also have your external drive assigned in iTunes as the location of your Library.

I have done exactly that and the music has been added to the track collection node. From there I can load tracks to a deck and Traktor will find them. However, the actual iTunes node in Traktor will still not locate any of my music. This is really important to me as like many others I organise my music in iTunes using playlsits, playlist folders etc.

Im not sure what you mean exactly here but my iTunes has already got my ex HD assigned as the location of my iTunes Music. But my actual library is on the internal HD. Are you saying that I need to move my library file to the same location as my iTunes Music folder?

Im sorry if my difficulties seem trivial. Thanks thus far!

iTunes: the file path to your iTunes Library (this path has to be identical to the settings in iTunes).

Your iTunes Library XML should be in the iTunes folder on the internal drive in your Music Folder.
In Traktor Preferences Data Location : iTunes Music Library should be assigned to something like: Macintosh Hard Drive: Users:blahblah:Music:iTunes:iTunes Music

iTunes 'should' update your XML when you quit the application so look in your iTunes Music Folder (on the laptop) and look at the date and time, it should be recent. If you quit iTunes it will make a new XML.

Then make certain that the path in Traktor points to that updated XML.

Remember all this must be done with the External Drive connected.

Your difficulties arent trivial. Don't sweat it.

Thats exactly what I thought and how it is set in my Traktor preferences.

But to my joy by directing Traktor to the iTunes library.xml file that was already set has kicked Traktor into being able to see all my iTunes music off the external HD. I think the key was to make sure my ex HD was connected and iTunes was opened and closed to save the iTunes library file properly. Then when resetting the location of the xml file in Traktor prefs (keeping HD plugged in of course) it worked just fine.

    Im so much happier now.

Thanks for your patience and help Karlos and forum people.

My only problem now is the Audio 8 DJ distortion when hot swapping or when the computer goes to sleep. Really annoying but thats another thread.

    Cheers all the same tho!
