Jam or Komplete Kontrol keyboard with MK3?

Hey what's up? I am seriously considering purchasing the Maschine MK3 but I would like to know which other piece I should get to compliment it to make the work flow easier. I was thinking about getting either Jam or the new Komplete Kontrol keyboard that came out with the MK3. I just do not know which one would be more beneficial to me and I can't really find any current info or videos on that subject. If it depends on what I need the other piece for, I mostly do remixes if that may help decide. Please let me know.

    Thank you,
    bk

So there is no general answer to that question - but if you can play piano get kkmk 2; if you're the patterns and loop guy love to programm a step sequencer then jam is your best friend.

IMHO The only reason to get Jam is if you are a big step sequencer fan... Consider that a KKSMK2 has "advanced host integration", screens that can display Maschine software menus so you end up with 2 sets of screens, this is very useful for many reasons, it has more advanced smart play features, the light guide for instrument keyswitches, and the list goes on and on... Up to you though.

Thank you for the replies. Ok, so if I end up going with the keyboard. What is the point of having the Maschine MK3 besides more screens. It looks like you can do everything with just the keyboard. It says they are made to work together but I haven't seen any info or videos with both of them working together. All I see is the intro video which shows it working with Ableton and other DAWs, but not with the MK3, which doesn't help my decision. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

I have all three. I play all the drum stuff with the MK3. Use the Komplete MK2 for playing (also use the MK3). I use jam for fast manipulation of all the elements in Maschine software (generally i'm using it as a DAW controller for Mashine software for now). I also use jam to hear variations of scenes and groups on the fly when I arrange stuff without upsetting the current display on my MK3 or Komplete MK2 (basically I'm not pressing alot of buttons on my playing controllers to switch around things). Its fun.... :)

The kk mk2 is pretty much a integrated keyboard for maschine when your Running maschine software stand alone .
It displays and gives you access to the mixer , browser , plugin parameters, track view ,idea view , it adds a mod and pitch wheel and strip , gives you, transport ,clear ,quantise ,solo mute ,buttons , scales chords , arp
This is all very helpful if your keyboard and maschine are not sitting next to each other , it's still helpful if they are tbf
The kk works inside of ableton etc independently with its own plugin as does maschine , but you still can use it in the maschine plugin running in ableton

The Jam's the easiest for arrangements. Drums and sampling on the mk3. The keyboard is great. You will like the ideas view on the mk2 keybaord, and use keymode to program drums (if you don't like the pads). I would say get the keyboard.

If i was you, I would look at the current issues with the MK3 pads, So if your new the NI family, maybe check out a used and/or ex-demo/new MK2/Studio and see if the store can do a serious discount.

I have both a Studio and a KK S88, and I would say the reason for both is a that drum loops are allot easier to play out on pads. As other people have said, if you can play piano/have will to learn get one. Chords are allot easier to put down on a Keyboard then trying to draw it in a DAW. As far as integration into DAW, KK allows you to control the track your on, stop/start/rec/seek/locate on a track all from hardware. The Maschine on the other hand i find somewhat useless in a DAW, as it spends most of its time in Midi mode(for me anyway).

I have MMk3, Jam, and KKMk1. The combo is great. I got KK first, then Jam, then the Mk3 a couple of weeks ago. If I just had Mk3 and was going to choose between Jam and KKMk2, I go with KK for sure, but I play keys a lot. Even with the KK Mk1, just being able to browse and load instruments and presets while playing the keys right in front of me is awesome. Plus it's a great MIDI keyboard/controller regardless of Maschine. I just used it and the KK software plugin in my DAW for a long time before I ever got Maschine Jam, and it's fantastic just in that use.

That said, Jam really does add some nice workflow, and I'd come to really like it in combo with KK before I got the Mk3. Besides the direct access to patterns and scenes, working with patterns in general is easier, everything is right there with a dedicated button press. Plus it does a few other things Maschine 4x4 can't, like having direct access to 8 sound slot volumes and pans at once on the touchstrips. And the step sequencer is the bomb.

But if I had to pick two of the three, I'd get the Mk3 4x4 and KK.

D-One already pointed out the Jam is a good look if you primarily step sequence. The 8x8 matrix is better for that. (Though I would argue the KK MK2 could be even better if they utilized the light guide and keys for step sequencing.) The other reason to look at the Jam is if you needed multiple touch strips for live performances. If these two scenarios don't apply to you then the KK MK2 is a much better extension to Maschine.

I thought about that myself when the first KK came out.
NI could make an awesome step sequencer out of the KK if they wanted.
Then they could start selling Maschine software as a paid upgrade to the KK owners.
The question is: Do they want to do that?

Do you know if anybody suggested the idea to them already?
