And i love it, But im not that much of a computer guru anymore and i have a little bit of lag but also, most of the sounds crackle when played and a hum in the background. i cant really find out whats wrong so i need some help. The volume is low so im thinking its either my memory or my sound card.

I have only 896mb of ram and i know it says you need 2gb but the lag is only there some times. Should i go by 2gb of ram?

I cant even find what my soundcard is so Im thinking its integrated. Im running a Gateway GT5056.

What can help stop the crackling?

I have the same hum - it seems to be caused by the lcd's. If you go into the preferences and turn the brightness all the way up it becomes less - it seems to be a resistence issue much like a dimmer switch on a light. Also if you use a power surge/mains conditioning unit the problem will go away.

I was gonna go get some tonight. 2 gigs for $70 Isnt bad and i can get it tonight so itll be worth it. But do you think that will stop the crackling? I know its not my speakers because theyre decent 5.1 and it does it with nice headphones too

Turning the brightness up helped alot, thanks!

buffer size is my guess as to crackling...
lower buffer = high cpu strain = crackling
higher buffer = less cpu = more latency

try setting yours low enough to avoid latency but high enough to avoid crackles

Ram is so cheap these days, you really don't have an excuse not to buy it. I bought 4GB of laptop ram for $70 the other day. I was stoked.
