I can't believe this. I just spent HOURS building a brand new DAW, loaded up Kontakt2 (among dozens of other apps and plugs) and probably because I am tired, deactivated my brand new DAW ID instead of my old one by pressing the wrong button (I didn't read/line it up right) on the registration screen .

It says it’s not reversible. Has anyone ever done this? Am I going to have to unload Kontakt2? I sure as hell am not dumping or reconfiguring the dual-core Opteron-based DAW I just built.

Is it new ID from support? Or is it E-bay?

Man, with Emulator-x it was just a matter of sticking the install disk in the machine, hit "OK", I was done. :-(

At least I have to register GPO too, so they will see that THIS time, I deactivate the OLD machine and the NEW machine will be there to show that I am not making it up. Thank God my version of Battery wasn't upgraded and is still the good old system of challenge, response, done. :)

    Best,

    Mark

Check that...just tried the register GPO and found that the brand new rig is toast across the board. This is bad news.

By DAW #id you mean system id right? As far as I know, you only get to register unique id's. Meaning if you deactivate the wrong one, then there's no going back. If you put your system folder/files on a separate partition, then there is no trouble to reinstall your OS, and register the new OS/System id. You will need to erase your previous system though, as far as I know. Spending a few hours to do this might be quicker in the long run than waiting several weeks for NI's support team to answer your query.

    best,
    Roy.

    Hey Roy,

Thanks for the quick reply. Good suggestion, but man, I can't bear the though of it right now. Just did my second system reconfig in as many weeks because I needed to get a board and processor that actually WORK for a DAW. There are a lot of good products out there. I love Kontakt2 & GPO, but I am selling a board and chip on e-Bay anyway, and if I can't settle this soon with NI, then I will probably go that route before I do another config. To much like childbirth...which I haven't done, but I have watched my wife, and it looks like I feel about doing another config. just to register Kontakt.

If it were as simple as, say, pulling out a UAD-1 or even my Soundcard, and re-registering, that wouldn't be bad...I don't thing pulling my Opteron and putting the 3500+ back in would do it either. I think I did that last week and it didn't make me re-register. Ah well...

    Best,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,
I'm a little confused. Could you explain what your setup is? I mean, I'm on os x, and each fresh install I need to re-register my NI apps. I think it might be as easy as just re-installing windows (that is what your on, right?). As far as I am aware, you don't need to do anything with your hardware, at least I've never had to. If you've got your boot system on a separate partition, like you should, then there should be no dramas. Unless I'm completely misguided about the windows operating system and digital audio applications (which is likely, as I've never actually used windows in this regard).

    best,
    Roy.

I have XP, and since I just re-did my DAW—new mainboard, new Opteron, new vid card, new disk drive, etc.—THAT is what changed NI. I simple repair of the OS shouldn't have an effect. If I RELOAD Windows (fresh install), then I have about SIX HOURS of reloading authorizing other software: SONAR, SAMPLITUDE, 50+ VSTs & VSTi's, UAD, Soundcard & video drivers, OFFICE 2003, e-mail programs...not to mention about 60 XP service releases (that I just did yesterday) and various registry tweaks...No THANKS!

At least I keep my samples and documents on other drives, but ALL the applications nowadays are absolutely ANAL about security.

There was an article by a "legitimate cracker" a while back. Some engineer I think that buys licenses, but then cracks his own stuff that he PAID for, just so he doesn't have go through all the crap what we do every time we swap out a mainboard.

    Absurd.

    This from the FAQ...

I may experiment in a few days (if I don't hear from NI) with putting the 3500+ back in, registering, taking it out, putting the Opteron 165 back in, re-registering...assuming that a new, random key is generated for each CPU, this might work. If the same key is generated based on the serial# of the CPU, then this wouldn't work, of course.

Save yourself the trouble; just call NI's tech support. I call the USA number all the time with questions like this and they are quick and competent to get it sorted out.

You probably did hose that authorization but if you explain it to them, they can fix it.

    Hello Mark,

You find the phone numbers for the LA office here:

    http://www.nativeinstruments.de/index.php?id=company_us

However, I have already reset your authorization so that you can authorize now again.

One time I changed my system HD from Toshiba to Hitachi type in my notebook. Before HD installation I copied the existing installation from the existing HD to the new HD using Drive Image 2002. After the first start of the Komplete 2 software components a new registration was required due to the new system ID.

This may help you in the same way to get a new system ID if NI resists to help you out with your registration deactivation mistake.

BTW I had the same stress during Komplete 3 registration deactivating the right machine ID’s.

That sounds like a relief to me – less panic in the future working with these ID’s.

Wow, thank you very much!!! After I cooled off, I wasn't really going to sell my Kontakt--but it would have taken me weeks to get over the DAW pain and reload Windows and all of that--this is MUCH appreciated. This time, I will mouse more slowly and read more carefully.

    Best,

    Mark

I agree with you! This turned someone (me) who was feeling pretty awful into a vocal supporter of NI service. Well done, indeed. :)
