I have K3 but I am thinking of buying a sample library called "Ethno World 5" which comes with K4 Player.

I can't afford to upgrade to the full version of K4 at the moment but I do like to edit instruments a lot and you can't do that with K4 Player. So my question is this:

Can instruments created for K4 or K4 Player be opened and edited in K3?

    Many thanks for any help.

    Alexandra.

You mean forward compatible (loading future version files in older program version - backwards compatible is loading older version files in a new program version). No, Kontakt was never forward compatible.

EvilDragon is right (how many posts do I make which start off that way). With your setup, you could use Kontakt Player 4 to play, but you wouldn't be able to use Kontakt 3 to edit. But EW5/KP4 won't touch Kontakt 3, so there's no harm in buying that library yet leaving everything else on your hard drive untouched. Kontakt 3 will continue to work. So you could basically have the same setup you have now, plus play-only capability for EW5.

Note that, as an owner of EW5 you would be eligible for a crossgrade discount to the full version of Kontakt 4, if you want to do that in the future.

Thanks for the advice chaps. You would think it would be easy to make K3 forward compatible but I guess they want to drain that last little ha'penny out of you! I wonder if the K4 player to K4 crossgrade is less expensive then a K3 to K4 upgrade - I will look into it.
