I own Komplete 9 and have purchased Komplete 10 upgrade some time ago. Both products are boxed versions. Currently, I have both of them installed and activated. When I was installing Komplete 10, I wasn't exactly sure how to approach this because of the fact this was an upgrade. So I've created folder "Komplete 10" on my sample libraries drive in addition to the already existing "Komplete 9" and installed the entire Komplete 10 library there. The problem is, that now I have many duplicate Komplete libraries and I need more space for my 3rd party Kontakt libraries and the possible migration to SSD in the future. My question is: how to solve the duplicates problem? May I simply delete the libraries from my "Komplete 9" folder that are also present in the Komplete 10 and will this affect my product activations and existing Pro Tools projects? Also, can I leave certain libraries from "Komplete 9" not included in Komplete 10? If I understood correctly, the only thing missing from previous version content are four older Kontakt piano libraries being replaced by "The Definitive Piano Collection". I would like to keep those to have broader selectio of pianos on my disposal.

For an overview about the differences between K9 and K10 have a look at Ultimate Outsiders comparison sheet: http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/2014/09/the-complete-history-of-komplete-all.html

Well, you can simply delete (duplicate) libraries from your K9 folder in case you don't need them anymore. But to be on the safe side you might start by moving (duplicate) libraries to an external HDD first - maybe also disconnect the external HDD afterwards - and see if your projects in ProTools still work. If that's the case it should be 'safe' to delete the duplicates. Otherwise you can simply move the libraries back ...

Or you can launch the standalone applications (Kontakt, Guitar Rig, etc.) first to check which of the library folders are used in the library- /database-paths found in the preferences or options of the applications.

In addition, you might also check if you have any custom presets or libraries saved in the K9 folder, and so on ...

Thank you for your quick answer; it was most helpful.

If I follow you correctly, the only thing I must do before deleting the duplicate libraries is to make sure that all my Komplete applications point to the correct location of the libraries common to both Komplete 9 and 10, which is in my case, "Komplete 10" folder.

I have also compared the content of my Komplete 9 and 10 folders and the only difference apart from the new libraries included in Komplete 10, are four older Kontakt piano libraries from earlier versions of Komplete (Vienna, New York and Berlin concert pianos and an upright piano). So I should leave just those four; the rest is included in Komplete 10.

I store all my custom presets in a different location so I'm guessing they will work OK as Komplete 9 & 10 have many libraries in common. I haven't modified the default locations of the applications and plugins themselves, so this shouldn't be an issue either. I will keep all my activations in Service Center, including the one for the Komplete 9 itself. I have read someplace that this acts as a licence for Komplete 10 upgrade. I will also copy the entire "Komplete 9" folder to an external drive, just to be on the safe side.

    Now to do some housecleaning...
