I have a recording system on a 10 year old MacPro 2012 that tops out at 10.13. I presume I could still run the Komplete 11 instruments that are in 13, but what new instruments in Komplete 13 WON'T I be able to run on that older computer? Or, perhaps, none of them will run. I hope somebody knows.

I checked out the site info for Massive X. Looks that that should run on the old computer. But, what about the other bundled instruments?

I have a separate computer (MacPro 2019) I use for mixing that's compatible, but it looks like if I upgrade to K13, I won't be able to go back and forth between the two computers as I can now.

Unfortunately, upgrading the old computer isn't an option, as it's also used for LTO archiving, and I need one that has PCIe slots, and another new MacPro is way too expensive.

I have a friend who thinks I can hack the 2012 to run Mojave (10.14), but that's unsupported and seems to be inviting trouble.

Can anybody offer counsel? Thank you!

You can upgrade mac pro 4,1 to 5,1 to run mojave. However the old xeons cannot run massive x as no avx extensions.

    Thanks for that reply, Simchris.

Since I first posted this thread, I went ahead and installed a Mojave partition on my unsupported MacPro5,1 (while keeping my High Sierra boot disk to fall back on just in case). I did that over the weekend, and SO FAR Mojave is playing nice with my Komplete 10 installation.

If the only downside to upgrading to Komplete 13 is Massive X being unavailable (along with those bonus packs of presets), I can live with that. My $15,000 2019 MacPro7,1 may not run it either, since it has 24 Xeon cores. Bummer. Maybe.

I think I'll go ahead and upgrade since NI is having a 50% sale. I'll report back here if it looks like upgrading was a huge mistake.

Hi, new XEONS support AVX -- it's only the 10+ year old ones that do not from the 4,1 and 5,1 Nehalem era. So far only thing that has impacted for me was Massive X. But I built an i9 9900K hackintosh for stuff like that. AVX was launched in 2011, but processors developed prior to that do not have AVX and cannot be added in any way.

Oh, thanks for that additional info.

It turns out Massive X runs on my 7,1, but I got a not unexpected error message on the 5,1 telling me my machine wasn't qualified for it.

Now that I've had a chance to play with Massive X on the 7,1, I wonder why it was necessary to use that technology. It's not that special of a synth, IMO. Unless I've overlooked something, none of the parameters a mappable to CC events - not even Volume CC#7. That's BS. The original Massive allows that. It appears there's no PDF and the documentation is all on line, which means no searching except on the current page.

Same CC shortcoming goes for Super 8. I'm really glad I got this upgrade as a discount, but IMO, most of the new electronic instruments and zillions of patches are crap for making music, and seem to be geared for horror movies and juvenile trendy music. Just my opinion.

I kind of knew what I was getting into, but I'm really disappointed with the lack of real-time control via CC messages with Super 8 and Massive X. I wasn't expecting that.
