Komplete 13 upgrade — worth it if I don't make DJ music?

    Aloha,

I'm greatly confused by UPGRADE offers I get every time i sign into NI.

I do not make techno, rave, DJ music. I'm a singer-songwriter. So many of the items included in the upgrade seem geared this way.

When I look at new items included in the "upgrade," I find I've already bought many of the VSTs when they cam out — because I could use them right now!

Thus, when I look at upgrade offers, I see many "new" instruments that... I just bought individually!

Right now, I'm looking at the new "Session Guitarist: Picked Nylon" VST. I could really use it. Seems better to purchase it rather than the 6x more expensive "upgrade."

I'm guessing, it's not worth upgrading because upgrades aren't geared towards songwriters like me.

    Am I missing something?

    Mahalo!

Similar to you I don’t need a lot of Komplete, and it only makes sense if there’s a half price sale for Black Friday. I also bought some vsts, but not in my case various guitars so that helps me justify a possible spend. It’s still marginal, but I get some bits I’d never get otherwise.

My strategy is not to buy individual plugins and wait for Update. If one buys it at Summer or Christmas sale it is afordable. It is cost effective, but one gets plugins that he likes with 1,5 year delay after release, on average.

I'm certainly not buying very many plugins at the moment. I even did spreadsheet and put a notional value against all the bits I don't have. It's all down to personal choice and style, but for me the only justification I can have for a half-price K13 Ultimate from K12 is the number of guitars of all types as well as a couple of the Play Series. It would be more compelling if I hadn't bought so many when they came out!

I also have a lot of expansions for Maschine thanks to the recent 9 for 90 sale, so in my case it really is marginal. If you wanted the various plugins / old cinematic stuff or orchestral pieces more than I do the case becomes more compelling.

    YMMV

    Mahalo again.

Perhaps like you I want/need the guitars and Play series VSTs.

As I want to use them in current projects, I get them. (Just yesterday I gave up trying to decide whether to wait for a "deal" to upgrade, and just bought the new nylon guitar VST. I have several songs I could use it on right now!

I think if I did a spreadsheet, my previous purchases of "new" VSTs would make an upgrade unnecessarily expensive, and provide little new that I would use.

It seems NI is missing an opportunity here... but then may my purchase patterns are a minority and their spreadsheets suggest sticking with what they've got!

    Mahalo again!

Nylon Guitar is not part of any Komplete 13 bundle, anyway.... It will be part of Komplete 14, which might come at around fall 2022. And first sale of that version at Summer 2023....

If I understand it well you speak about Upgrade from Komplete ?? to Komplete 13 Ultimate. There is pretty much guitars in there, by the way. The upgrade will be 300 EUR/USD in two months. Most probably....

    Mahalo, again.

Yes, I figured nylon would be part of the next update, which begged the question: Should I wait, or purchase now?

If you are right about Fall '22 I'm glad I didn't wait!

And I remained confused about NI's marketing strategy here... : )

I guess, they prefere users buy Komplete bundles and update/upgrade every two years. There is regular pattern twice a yearr of 50% sales mainly on bundles. And quite rarely on full versions....
And they probably also like if users buy new plugins meanwhile...

And there is also a pattern all was in Komplete, later all is in Komplete Ultimate, later almost all is in Komplete Ultimate CE.
