Thanks brivaldo! You are talking from soundsynthesis/-creation perspective, right? I think many consider complete for just the awesome samplers like kontakt and battery and the included pianos and keys. The hard route to learn synth parameters wouldn't aply then, I guess. Heck, Komplete would be a good deal just for it including guitar rig - that's if you play a guitar, of course. What do you think of the Komplete package outside synthesizers (which obviously are among the most intensive pieces of any package when it comes to tweaking)?

    komplete

Its a complete set of VSTs and sampler, modelled synths and modular synthesizer. Samples cover orchestral, world, synths. Percussion too. Its pretty comprehensive but no its not a sequencer or DAW.

If you wanted to do something live it will work standalone assuming you have a keyboard to trigger it.

Heres the link to the demo http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/producer/komplete-7-players/.

Also for about 76 quid you can buy a cut down (but very useable) Komplete Elements version - however there is no discount if you upgrade from that (there are other upgrade routes).

This is super outdated, and I mean this with the utmost respect, but dude if you don't even know what a sequencer is, you REALLY need to not be spending hundreds of dollars on music software. Trust me.

I bought Live 8 Intro for my birthday March 7. I then bought Reason 5 a couple weeks ago. I've got my MAudio Keystudio 25.

We have the 21.5" 2010 imac and my pc also. But the pc is having boot issues that need to be fixed bad.

Someone said you can use Komplete players in a DAW like Live. So what does this let you do?

wow. KOMPLETE comes with BOTH AUDIO UNIT AND VST versions.
it’s Reasons fault it can’t host the instruments in KOMPLETE. Every other midi DAW does, From FL Studio to Sonar to Logic to Cubase to Maschine to ableton.

Reason, by itself, can not use Vsts or Audio units, therefore limited unless you like using others sounds in their very cheap ‘refills’

    Reason is kids stuff IMHO.
it’s great to start at and through intermediate but you’ll ditch it when you get good at a full featured DAW.

If you have to use that toybox you can rewire it into a more capable program like ableton or logic, using all of reason running into whatever.

Basically the DAW will let you record the Komplete player instruments but if you are already using Reason then you should probably get the full version of Komplete 7 but you should get the full version of Live as well or some other other DAW like Pro Tools!

Don't get komplete before ableton or whatever your choice of host. Reason can not use them. you'll have the best software collection sitting in a box until you get another DAW.
    Much love and music.

Or you could play them. Like instruments. Yes, a DAW expands possibilities enormously but the instruments in Komplete work in 'stand-alone' mode.

One additional thing to consider is some DAW's have rewire with will let you use Reason as an instrument inside it like the Komplete instruments. I personally use Sony Acid Pro7 and Pro Tools 9 and I would not use a DAW that doesn't have rewire because I use Reason too, sometimes in conjunction with the Komplete instruments and other virtual instruments I own.

Reason is a dinosaur. Next you'll tell me you're still using Rebirth. LOL

When I want something that sounds like ReBirth, I use ReBirth. And Reason is perfectly fine as a tool. As long as one has skill and imagination, ANYTHING can be used to make good music. WithOUT that skill and imagination, one can simply spend a life buying new tools and making fun of the tools of others.

The instruments in Reason are basically the same instruments in Komplete they just have less functionality! If you have a sound in your head and you want to put it down real quick, Reason is definitely the way to go, especially of you have a patch you can just tweak a little bit to get it sounding exactly like you hear it in your head.

Sure, but I was assuming a musician would like to record their work, not go "da&m" I wish I had that recorded. And if live, using multiple plug ins standalone is just about ridiculous without maInstage. Wouldn't be realistic.

By 'assuming' you missed a possibility. No matter how 'realistic' or otherwise an option might be, to miss it is to deprive someone of an option that might work for them. I, for example, know a chap who, in live situations, uses just two plugins (on two separate comps).

BTW: anyone who describes 'Reason' as a 'toybox' is a buffoon.

I should of been more clear. What I meant was yes you can do that, but it isn't the best OPTION to do due to system resources and unless you have multiple monitors it would be more of a pain to navigate as well. That isn't opinion. Open up system manager or whatever you use. Or better yet post a demo proving me wrong. Until then this convos been fun ;) I don't do useless Internet bickering. Pce.

You can use Komplete by itself as instruments in a live situation with some kind of MIDI controller.

If you want to compose music with the computer using some Komplete's instruments, and let the computer play the composition, you need a sequencer that can uses VSTi instruments.
