Hi, I have Komplete 6 installed(fully updated) and considering purchasing Komplete 7 update. I'm unclear about how the update installation would work. Would I just let Komplete 7 install all the apps over again?(that are included in K6) Also I have the Battery & Kontakt sample libraries installed on a secondary internal drive, so would I point the Komplete 7 installer to these libraries and install over them?

    Thank you.

Mac Pro 2x2.26 "Nehalem" 8 GB RAM, OS 10.6.4, Logic Pro 9.1.1

    Hello,

we recommend to exclude those applications from the Komplete 7 installation which you already have installed (by Komplete 6 or by other installers).

For sample libraries the same applies.

    Other alternatives:
    1) Only install the K7 content that is not in Komplete 6

    2) Uninstall Komplete 6, then install Komplete 7.

My concern is that I have several previous verisons of Komplete that particular instruments and samples are being used in. I bought 6 and then they released 7 a week later. So, I don't want to install both if unecessary. However, do I need to install the older versions first to maintain older sounds and instruments or does Komplete 7 contain those sounds? I know it will not contain all of the instruments. I want to avoid loading up a track done with samples or instruments from a previous version to find out that it can't find them. Thank you very much.

To my knowledge, Komplete 7 includes all the same content as Komplete 6 PLUS new content.

If you are at all concerned, just install Komplete 7 over Komplete 6. Before you do, make sure and note where you installed the various Komplete 6 libraries, so you can specify those same locations for the Komplete 7 libraries.

WHen you install komplete, the installer allows you to specify separate locations for Library content than the programs themselves.

In my situation, I install all the programs on my C: (Main) drive, and then specify a different location for Library content on a 2nd hard drive.

If you install Komplete 7 in exactly the same locations as Komplete 6, none of your existing projects should get messed up.

    Installing Komplete 7 will you lose Komplete 2, 3, 4 ...

I'm not worried about 6. I haven't even installed it. I'm concerned about the instruments and sounds I have in 3 & 4 that I used in projects. I don't want to install 7 and then all the content I used from 3 or 4 is gone and the trax won't function properly. Maybe I'm a little nuts with this, but given the fact that Komplete has continually cut intstruments from the series, it's logical that those previous sounds and instruments will not be there. Right? =) thanks a lot.
I can't wait to install this, but I want to spend the least amount of time doing it.
    thnx

You should be fine installing Komplete 7 over an existing install of Komplete 3 or 4.
All of the newer programs will be installed in different directories (e.g. Abysynth 4 vs. Absynth 5).

Just note your current Komplete 3/4 Library Locations so you can specify different locations for the Komplete 7 content.

For example, if you have an existing directory titled "\Kontakt Library" make sure you install the Kontakt 4 library to something with a different name like "\Kontakt 4 Library".

got it. Just spoke to a friend who helped test maschine - I'm upgrading to 7, do I need to install all the way back to 3 or 4 where I started to make sure I have all the sounds and instruments I may have used in trax previously?
    His reply -
Yes. For sounds and instruments. Some of the people who where working on the earlier instruments are no longer with NI and they also dropped some of the instruments so you will have to install them from earlier versions. I have earlier ones (like Pro 5 and B4) installed on my 27" iMac quad i7 running snow, and have no problems with them.

SO, i can wait to install all this junk. ugh. 3,4,5,7 great.

If this helps, I installed the K7 update on a drive that already had about 60G of samples from prior versions of Komplete going all the way back to 4 (Akoustik Piano, B4II, Elektrik Piano, etc.) and they were not affected at all by the install. As others have said K7 installs in different folders. Once you're done with the install, be sure to update your data base but in my case Kontakt located ALL of my sample libraries including the old ones. Everything is working fine.

    Folders and subfolders

I'm upgrading from Komplete 6 to 7. I have a custom drive for my sound libraries and samples. I just don't know how far down the path to tell Komplete 7's installer where to locate my content.

    My current folder structure is:

    F:\native instruments\sample libraries\Battery 3 Library

So do I tell the installer to install the new parts of 7 in

    F:\native instruments\sample libraries\ or

    F:\native instruments\

p.s. I love the crazy hopeful understatement of the installation dialog box " This may take a few minutes" when referring to the installation of 90GB of material from 12 DVD's

I started the installation this evening and it is taking avery long time. I finally had to stop the installation towards the middle of the Kontakt Library load. I was curious what would show in Service Center so I started it up and a lot of programs from K7 were asking for serial numbers. If I remember correctly, didn't K6 just ask for the one K6 serial number and then registered everything? Or is this because I didn't go thru with the complete install?

I'll have to start this over tomorrow afternoon when I get home from work....

A suggestion - for these large library files, you should offer the installers the possibility of stoping/continuing a library install. On average it was taking about 50 minutes per DVD to transfer to hard drive on my MSI GT725 laptop...having to run straight thru for upwards of 10 hours is not good for the DVD drive or hard drive.

There is just a single serial number to type in once you get a clean Komplete 7 install. I didn't have many new apps to install - mostly just the new libraries, which still brought the total to 30 GB. I agree it can be brutal on laptops heat-wise to have unrelenting DVD and HD drive I/O activity for many hours.

So let me get this straight...

I have Komplete 6 installed and fully updated. When I upgrade to 7, I'm basically going to be looking at a list of check boxes of all the stuff and I'm only going to need to install:

    ABBEY ROAD 60s DRUMS
    ACOUSTIC REFRACTIONS
    BERLIN CONCERT GRAND
    NEW YORK CONCERT GRAND
    RAMMFIRE
    REAKTOR PRISM
    REAKTOR SPARK
    REFLEKTOR
    SCARBEE A-200
    SCARBEE CLAVINET/PIANET
    SCARBEE MARK I
    SCARBEE MM-BASS
    THE FINGER
    TRAKTOR'S 12
    UPRIGHT PIANO
    VIENNA CONCERT GRAND
    VINTAGE ORGANS

since the K6 instruments are already installed, correct?

Right now, my Kontakt and Battery libraries are on a separate external HD.

It's like 3 separate folders on there:
    "External HD\Kontakt Library"
    "External HD\Kontakt Factory Selection"
    "External HD\Battery"

In the case of, for example, "Upright Piano" which is a Kontakt instrument, do I choose to just install that in the "Kontakt Library" folder on my external or do I make a new "Upright Piano" folder alongside the "Kontakt Library" folder?

I'm not going to be doing this until probably early next week, just trying to be prepared.

    Hello,

the installer will create a folder e.g. "Upright Piano Library" in the location specified by you during the installation.

So if you would select the location (=directory) which already contains your "Kontakt library" folder, then the "Upright Piano Library" folder will be created next to the "Kontakt library" folder.

I would recommend to keep the libraries in their own dedicated folders rather than merging the libraries into each other.

    Alright. One more question.

I got done installing the update a couple hours ago. So far, so awesome with the new stuff.

Anyway, I selected to install the "Content" on my external HD because like I said before, my Battery and Kontakt libraries are on the external. Because of this, all the other content (the 3 Reaktor instruments, Acoustic Refractions, and Reflektor/Rammfire/Traktor's 12) was also installed on that drive while all my other Reaktor/Kore/Guitar Rig content is on my main hard drive.

Now, probably a stupid question because when I open those 3 applications, they find all the new stuff...but should I move those things onto my internal drive to the same location as the rest of the GR/Kore/Reaktor content? Or does it matter that they're on a separate drive?

Thanks. And I promise after this one, I'll quit asking dumb questions and start making serious noise again...

    Hi,

what matters is that the content stays there where the installer installed this to.

The installed content should definitely not be moved manually after the installation. Otherwise the software (Reaktor, Guitar Rig, Kore, Kontakt 4 or Kontakt 4 Player) will not be able to find the content anymore.

When installing, the location for the content installed in this installation run is global for all installed content.

However, you could run the installer again, only choose the Reaktor content (for example) and install this to a different location.

    Got it, thanks.

Can I create a folder on that external, say, "Native Instruments" and put all the NI stuff in there without any trouble (just to clean the hard drive up a little bit and keep it separate from backups, other samples, etc.) or would that require changing the path in Kontakt/Battery, GR-Kore-Reaktor not being able to find stuff, etc.?

This means that the content must stay in the exact folder, not just on the same harddrive.

In other words: the directory path of the content files must remain valid!

Please do not move or rename any files or folders
