I have pre-ordered Komplete 7 and at the moment have Kontakt 3 and Guitar Rig 4 Pro installed. Kontakt 4 and Guitar Rig 4 Pro both comes with Komplete 7 OK it will not arrive until next month.

My question is when it does arrive should I un-install Kontakt3 including all sound files (I have no pre-sets or sounds I want to save) and do a clean install of Kontakt 4? Space on my PC is not an issue but I like to keep it lean and clean if possible and avoid any possible conflicts.

In a way the same applies with Guitar Rig Pro 4 as I need to de-register both Kontakt 3 and my current Guitar Rig 4 Pro to sell them on as I see no point in keeping them.

    Any suggestions or advice appreciated.:S

OK I'll simplify this the question is when upgrading to a new version is it best practise to do a complete new install i.e uninstall the previous version and all its libraries? Taking for granted there are no presets or sounds that I want to keep. I am talking Kontakt 3 to Kontakt 4.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure you just install Komplete 7 without uninstalling Kontakt 3 and Guitar Rig. If someone else knows otherwise, please let us know.

I'm just thinking that as Komplete 7 comes with both Kontakt 4 and Guitar Rig included is it best to deregister my current versions and sell them on. I just can't see much point in having Kontakt 3.5 and 4.1 installed unless 3.5 has something that 4.1 doesn't?

I'm OK for disc space so that is not the issue just interested what others have done in the past as I can't see much point in keeping older versions of software installed. Maybe Kontakt 3 has very little resale value as it is now discontinued but Guitar Rig 4 pro is current so someone might want to buy that.

You can only sell your Kontakt 3 or Guitar Rig 4 IF you purchased a full, retail version of Komplete 7. If you purchased an upgrade Komplete 7 -- i.e. the upgrade version for Kontakt/Reaktor/Kore owners, then your Kontakt/Reaktor/Kore license is tied to your Komplete 7 license.

If you want your system to be as clean as possible, then remove/Uninstall Kontakt 3 and Guitar Rig 4 from your computer before you install Kompelete 7.

As far as "dereigstering" the GR4 and Kontakt 3, you would need to contact NI Registration Support and have them delete the product Serial Numbers from your NI account -- http://co.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=regsuppfrm . After the S/Ns are removed from your account, the next owner could then register those S/Ns to a new account.

Hmm I see what you are saying but I'm not quite sure about it. I crossgraded to Kontakt 3 which meant I got a reasonable price on it, however it is obviously the full version. The fact it is a crossgrade I assume means that if anyone buys it from me they will not be able to use it for any upgrade/crossgrade purpases. However if I de-register it surely the new owner has the right to register and us it?. Guitar pro was purchased outright so once again I assume I have the right to de-register and sell it and in this case the new owner could register and yes use it for upgrade purposes.

I have pre-ordered Komplete 7 on a crossgrade which surely means I will receive the full package and can register Komplete 7 and all its components are linked to that one registration which means obviously you cannot de register or sell on individual parts of Komplete.

Lastly once I have Komplete 7 I assume I can log-in to my account and de-register Kontakt 3 and Guitar Rig 4, once that is done surely I can sell them both, informing a potential buyer that Kontakt 3 cannot be used for upgrades/crossgrades but Guitar Rig 4 can. If I am missing something here let me know.

The easiest way to understand how products are tied to one another is to ask the question "did I receive some type of discount because I already owned some NI product"? If so, those products are tied together and can not be re-sold separately.

For example, you mention you "crossgraded to Kontakt 3". This means you were able to buy Kontakt 3 at a reduced price (compared to a full retail version of Kontakt 3) because you already owned some NI product.

Therefore, those two products are tied to one another -- i.e. your "original" product and the Kontakt 3 crossgrade. When you installed the Kontakt 3 crossgrade and used NI Service Center to authorize it, NI looked up your "customer products owned and already registered" information. It "saw" you own the qualifying product, so it authorized your crossgrade.

If you had purchased the crossgrade but did not actually own a qualifying product (or had never installed that product) NI would not have activated the crossgrade since it would not have "seen" a qualifying product.

Yes. If you purchased a full, retail version of a product you could have NI de-register the product and sell it to someone else. By de-registering, NI goes out to your Customer account and removes/deletes the product serial number, so someone else could then authorize it. [During the authorization of any NI product, NI checks for duplicates to make sure someone else has not already registered a product using that same Serial Number. This is why you need to have NI delete the Serial Number from your account, so the next owner is not seen as a "duplicate" owner).

You ALSO can not sell the product you used to qualify for the Komplete 7 crossgrade (I assume this was Kontakt 3 or Guitar Rig 4).

If you think about it, NI rules make sense. It would be unfair for you to be able to buy any product at a discounted price (either crossgrade, update, or upgrade) then turn around and re-sell the product that allowed you to get a discount in the first place.
If you purchased a "crossgrade version" of Kontakt 3, then the only people who would be able to buy it and register it would be people who ALSO qualify for the crossgrade. If a "normal" person tried to register your Kontakt 3, a query of that person's NI Account would show they did not own the qualifying product, so their authorization of Kontakt 3 would fail.

You definitely can not sell whatever product you already own that is qualifying you to buy the Komplete 7 update (in your case either Kontakt 3 or Guitar Rig 4). Looking at the Komplete 7 info on the NI website it appears you could use either Kontakt 3 or Guitar Rig 4 Kontrol Edition as the "qualifying product" to authorize the Komplete 7 update.

Given your Guitar Rig 4 is a full, retail license, that is the product you can de-register and re-sell as a full, retail version.

You can then use your Kontakt 3 update license as the qualifying product for the Komplete 7 update.

Your products would look like this:
-- Guitar Rig 4: full, retail license, not tied to any other NI product
-- NI Crossgrade product (whatever it was) ---> tied to Kontakt 3 Crossgrade/Update license ---> tied to Komplete 7 Update license.

To give another example, I am a Komplete 3-6 and Kore owner, and ALL of my products are tied together, meaning I can't resell any of them separately:
-- I purchased full, retail version of Kore
-- Purchased the Komplete 3 Crossgrade (at reduced price due to Kore, therefore tied to my Kore license)
-- Purchased the Komplete 4, 5, 6, and 7 updates (all at reduced prices, and therefore each version tied to the previous version, ultimately tied back to my original Kore license).

Finally, you can't "de-register" any products yourself -- NI has to do it. You contact NI Registration Support here -- http://co.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=regsuppfrm

Ask them to de-register your Guitar Rig 4 license so you can re-sell it. As mentioned above, you can't resell your Kontakt 3 license (nor your original qualifying product) since both of those products are tied to your Komplete 7 update.

If you have a lot of songs in which you used Kontakt 3, you also might consider leaving it installed.
Otherwise you will have to redirect all the used samples manually. At least, that was my experience when moving to newer versions.

I just talked to support @ Native instruments:

    Don't un-install your earlier Kontakt x.
Don't install what you already have installed, cause than you have to do all the updates one more time.

    That's it :)
