Just got Komplete 8 Ultimate but didnt have enough HD space in the laptop.

So I get a 750 Gb ext hard drive and now the installer wont let me use that space because the ext disk isnt running Mac OS X.

How do i get around this?
    Thanks Guys.

surely you just need to format the external drive so it works with a Mac?

To format it start Disk Utility, select the drive (not its current partition), Partition tab, choose 1 partition layout, click options and choose GUID Partition Table. Give it a name, apply and wait for it to format. It should now be acceptable to Mac installers.

I had done all that formatting to begin with. I thought it might have been the EXT HD so I took it back and upgraded $30 for a Mac compatable EXT HD. Same thing.

First I tried to Drag and Drop Komplete into the EXT HD on desktop. It creates an alias in the HD window. I open it and open the installer.

I carry on through until I get to 'Select a Destination'.

This shows Mac.HD with green arrow and Komplete and EXT HD with yellow triangle with exclaimation marks, and I cant proceed.

Do I have to format BOTH the EXT HD and the Komplete HD with the Disk utility?

    Thanks for your time guys.http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/images/ni_smilies/sad.gif

you should be able to select your External HD, when you install.

during the install process you get a chance to select the External HD

exactly what errors are you getting?

There's no such thing as an external drive incompatible with a Mac. They're all the same, and you just need to use the right partitioning scheme to be on the safe side (and format it HFS+, of course).

From what others have figured out, the drive in Komplete 8 Ultimate is a regular drive, but the controller has writing blocked for safety. Take it out of the enclosure and stick it in a regular one, and you can format the heck out of it. Which is a silly idea :p

Thanks again fellas, but I found the prob. Location, location, location! Had to put that as Ext HD.

BUT its still loading after 14 HRS! and telling me that its still got 2 hrs and 38 min, which its been showing for the last 3 hrs (I wonder why it doesn't show the seconds as well just to make it a 100% piss take).

I didnt plug in the extra usb plug. Would that have made a great difference and,if so, can I do it now whilst its transferring?

    Cheers

OK its been 17 hrs now and Im told Ive got 3hrs and 24 minutes to go. I even left the curser on the line to see if it was moving...no.

    Whats going on?

Is there a way to disconnect this without damage?

As Shaun Ryder once said..."youre twisting my melon, man".
