This is probably just me learning how things work, but I want to confirm it's me and not the equipment being weird.

I'm using Reaper with my Komplete Audio 6, headphones plugged into the KA6, and direct monitoring on the KA6 turned off. (KA6 user manual states the Direct Monitoring feature cannot be used for Inputs 3/4 (the balanced 1/4" inputs)). Signal chain is condenser mic → balanced XLR cable → dbx 286s → balanced 1/4" TRS cable → Input 3 on Komplete Audio 6 → USB cable → laptop. Device in Reaper is set to KA6 ANSIO driver.

When Record Monitoring is set to OFF in Reaper I can't hear anything in the headphones, which I sort of expected since I can't monitor Input 3 on the KA6 directly. When Record Monitoring in Reaper is set to ON or AUTO I can hear the mic, but it sounds like there is a very short delay or reverb on the signal. My newbie assumption is that what I'm hearing in the headphones is the original signal from the interface mixed with the latency-delayed signal from the DAW. I've tried different configuration combinations/settings on both the KA6 and Reaper, but I get either nothing or the "reverb" signal. Is there a way to configure the KA6 and/or Reaper to monitor either (1) the signal from the KA6 by itself (preferred) or (2) the "return" signal from Reaper, but not both simultaneously?

Hope all that makes sense. Any help is appreciated.

In the Audio 6 control panel, try reducing the Process buffer. this should reduce the latency, since you are using a microphone, (and even with headphones) you are hearing the signal from your instrument/voice and the signal "post" Reaper" try reducing the process buffer as much as possible without introducing any "Pops or Clicks" but as far as hearing the Pre-Reaper instrument sound, not much you can do about that if you get my drift!!!

Yeah, I can't find a way to get one or the other. There's not even an Input/Host mix setting I can find. Very disappointing.

there is an input/host knob on the KA6 front panel, so how about the using input 1 or 2 and turning the input/host knob all the way to the Left (input)...that should give you a direct output signal only. 1 and 2 can be used for line level signals...

or you could turn the input/host knob all the way to the right and just monitor the signal from Reaper, but in that case, since you are using a Mic, say to record an acoustic guitar, even with headphones, you would hear the guitar as you play it (natural room sound) as well as the signal from Reaper...there is no way around that...in a direct recording of say an electric guitar plugged in to the KA6 you could probably turn up the headphone volume enough to not hear the low level unamplified electric guitar.

edit: I never thought to ask, are we talking about the KA6 Mk1 or the KA6 Mk2? if Mk1 then ignore anything that mentions input/host knob...Does not exist on Mk1...
    Peace,

Yep. It's a Mk1. The Monitoring knob on the front is only for volume.
