Some good new features, especially controllable from any hardware controller. But at this point I'm just going to cut and paste what I wrote when 2.0 came out, as there seems to still be precisely zero improvement on all the core functionality that has been missing in Komplete Kontrol since day one, version one point zero. Every year that passes I lose more hair from scratching my head trying to figure out what on earth NI are doing.

    ---

Just my annual grumpy post that I make whenever NI release a shiny new version. It beggars belief that not a single core problem from 1.0 has been addressed. For fun, I can now add a new one. Just to recap:

    1. No resizeable GUI. A big deal, as often there is no room for more than 2 results.
    2. No way to see what instrument or library a patch belongs to.
    3. No way to sort by instrument or library
    4. No way to search anything other than 1 or all libraries. So no use for, say, searching all Reaktor synths.

    And now... a fifth!

    5. No FX version of the plugin for, um, FX.

I don't get it. I have no idea what priorities that NI have for Komplete Kontrol. The above are all core functionality as far as I am concerned, and were all obvious to me within the first 10 minutes of playing with 1.0. Not a single thing has changed. Unless you are using it with hardware, it is next to useless. The previews have part addressed the underlying issues behind 2 and 3, but a) they take up a lot of space, and b) are no substitute for playing patches as you browse. That's the core (Kore?!) job here - play the keys as you audition a preset, skip to the next. At the moment that will take an eternity as it doesn't go through it instrument by instrument.

I don't get it. NI clearly have incredibly talented coders. But there's no evidence of this from KK.

OK, piece said. See y'all for 2.1.

    ---

    ... and see y'all for 2.2.

Yeah this never made sense to me, that and the fact that you can't automate them either so at the moment their only benefit really is just being fun to play, kindof (even then you can't save what you play either - no chains)

Yeah, this is completely baffling. It's a thing you would expect.

That's my main worry too but do you have any proof of that zero requested feature added...? There's no change log yet.

And let me guess, after almost 5 years, still no Reaper support, right?

Mark 1 has Reaper support via MCU, it's only Mark 2 keyboards that lack MCU (and they are not 5 years old), although there is a third party solution available now that goes beyond MCU and enables the same level of integration as in Live.

I think the most important thing before adding any features is to fix the _slow loading time_ (about 15sec on imac pro) of Komplete Kontrol plugin. I have thousands of favorite sounds in Komplete Kontrol but I end up using Kontakt (loading time about 3-4 secs) all the time because it is just faster workflow to search sounds there (kontakt lacks the tagging and favorites system though...). When you add a lot of Komplete Kontrol instances in your session, session loading times become unbearable. Please NI, fix the loading time before anything else! The premiere reason for having Komplete Kontrol is to make the _workflow faster_ but the loading time makes it unusable.

Does automatic track selection work there? Not as far, as I know.
And it would really be easy to code, since Reaper allows a lot due to its API.

they try to make other controller fit into Komplete Kontrol, but why would anyone do that ?? adding a layer of a crap plugins host to a working controller ????

they should better make their controller more compatible with current daw, by adding 14 bits midi support, so we can use KK keyboard without Komplete Kontrol with a decent resolution.

128 step midi resolution is good for 40$ controllers..

No idea, don’t use it. You should take that up with Moss the coder.

100% agree with this. It'd be a great tool if it didn't slow down everything so painfully in a DAW session.

I'm looking forward to an actual written document with the new features listed. Watching those videos is painful.

I do agree about the load times needing sorting (on my old system it takes even longer) but once it is loaded I still think it speeds up the workflow overall because it can search better than Kontakt and many plugins in fact. So it takes an extra 10 secs to load but you probably save more than that in the long run.

I raiserld this load time issue in the beta discussions and stated that adding yet more features such as the sampler is only going to contribute to more bloat. I am sure back in V 2.0.1 before the FX section was added it was much quicker to load. The more functions that get added, the more it takes to load.

Waiting for transport controls in Cubase 10 with KK A-series (KK S-series already work fine). Maybe with this V.2.1 now...?

You mean that you click on a track in Reaper and it gets selected on the Kontrol 1? Yes, that works.

I’m curious about the ability to control KK from other hardware. I have Komplete and an Arturia Keystep. I was initially interested in the new M32 controller for integrating with KK, but I don’t like that it doesn’t have aftertouch. Does the new 2.1 update mean that I can use any other midi controller with knobs and transport buttons to control the KK software? I would prefer not to buy another keyboard.

If so, does someone have any suggestions for something compact that would pair well with the Arturia Keystep that has knobs and transport controls that would work well with KK and Logic. I was thinking along the lines of the Korg Nano series.
