    Hi,

Yesterday I tried to build my own template (SYSTEM-8) for Komplete Kontrol 49 MK2 and it wasn't a too happy experience.

I must say that WHEN it works it is pretty cool to use every parameter from your KK, but I was left with some big trouble at the end. Here is a small sum up of what I encountered (and some things that definitely could be improved):

    - Making Templates can for some reason not be done with the Logic Pro Kontrol plug-in, but only with the stand alone editor (took me a while to find that out)
    - The name of a Template can not be renamed (as far as I can tell). So you are always stuck with generic names like Template2, Template3 etc. It would be VERY nice to add a name to a Template. It would be even more nice if you could somehow integrate your Template into the regular NKS Instruments (add an image, make it searchable etc.)
    - You can not explicitly save a template, although I did not lose any data while making edits to Template it makes you feel insecure about possibly losing your work
    - There seems to be no way to export/import Templates, so I would not be able to share my work of making a SYSTEM-8 template with somebody else
    - Within a template you can add different pages to accommodate your control/program change knobs (8) and buttons (8). You can not name Pages, which would be very nice, suppose you could rename a Page to OSC1, another to OSC2 etc. so you with each parameter you would not have to include the OSC1, OSC2 name.
    - But the biggest problem I ran into is that at a certain point Kontrol becomes unresponsive while editing the Template. None of the buttons for the Mode (Midi, Browser etc.) are choosable, you can not scroll through Pages. Only the parameters that are visible at that moment still work.
I don't see another way to get back in business than even having to restart my computer (restarting only the Kontrol did not solve anything).

Needless to say the current way of implementing things for building your own Templates is very rudimentary and very unstable at the moment. But maybe I am simple overseeing some things :)

I see you are making a midi template, not a template to control a plugin loaded into Komplete Kontrol - is this for hardware then, I thought System 8 already had ample control (it has like a gazillion knobs)? If you mean to control the System 8 plugin itself then why not load it into KK and map the controls internally, you have lots more options that way?

Either way it sounds like you need to be using the latest version of KK (2.0.2) which does have the ability to rename midi templates (plugin templates have always been renamable) now so update and after that if you right click on the template name you get an option to change it. Yes it would be very useful to be able to rename user pages as well, again you can with plugin templates but not midi (yet). Hoping this will be added.

KK settings including templates are stored in the file Komplete Kontrol MK2 Settings.dat in the KK User folder so this can be regularly backed up and restored if needs be (on Mac this is \Users\username\Library\Application Support\Native Instruments\Komplete Kontrol, not sure where it is on Windows but shouldn't be hard to find).

I have asked NI myself for it to be possible to save/export/import templates individually - I think this would be useful

The unresponsiveness thing sounds like a bug so report to support

    Hi Kymeia,

thanks for your answer. First of all: I have Roland Cloud and with it comes the SYSTEM-8 software, so indeed I do not have the gazillion hardware knobs available :)
In case of the Roland Cloud software only 2 plug-ins show up when navigate the Instruments from within the Kontrol Editor and the SYSTEM-8 is not one of them. Although I must admit that it is not complete clear to me how to go from there with plug-ins and editing parameters. For example when I load Keyscape I have no idea how Keyscape's parameters can be controlled by the KK. While at the other hand when I load u-he Zebra all parameters are available from the KK, but the plug-in itself is not visible in the KK editor screen (on the Mac).

The Template renaming is indeed solved with the new 2.0.2 version!

Check out the NKS User Library thread for tutorials on how to map plugins (+ YouTube + the manual). In the case of Keyscape and Omnisphere the reason they don't present controls for mapping straight off is they need assigning in the plugin itself first before they show their params to any host - it's just how these 2 are designed, automation is customisable rather than fixed like in most plugins (right click on any control in these plugins and choose 'Enable host automation' - then it will show in KK's mapping pane - but the whole library is already mapped to NKS anyway from here http://freelancesoundlabs.com/index...1-keyscape-patch-browser-for-komplete-kontrol or here https://github.com/jhorology/nks-presets-collection)

Does System 8 not come as a VST2 plugin?

Thanks for the links and tips, just recently started with my Kontrol journey so thanks for pointing me in the right direction ;)

Probably the System-8 does not show up then because the plug-in is not in VST-2 format (The Roland Cloud is installed through a shell application - the Cloud Manager- so it is not directly obvious what type of plug-ins are being installed).

    Hello!
I have issue to save a midi template on the KK S49 mk2!

When i run it in stand alone mode and enter different midi templates (one for each of my hardware Synths I like to control with the Midi Keyboard, there is no option for saving the template!
So i need to add templates after every re start of KK Software...

Anybody who has a solution for this?
