    Dear all,

This is my first post. Good to be here!

I've just bought the above off eBay for a good price but when I tried to register it I saw that it was already registered. I contacted the seller, he said he no longer had contact with the seller.
I contacted support at NI showing my proof of purchase, the serial off the keyboard and my correspondence with the eBay seller. But all I got was what seemed like a standard response about getting the licence transfer.
See attached correspondence. Is there anyway around this? The keyboard doesn't work properly without the Komplete Kontrol software.
If I contact NI Support again using their ticket system what else can I say apart from what I've already said so I feel I'll get the same response. Surely there must be times where people saleNI keyboards without transferring the licence.
    Any help gratefully received.
    Best Dazza

Unfortunately you need to get the serial.

There is software tied to the serial of the keyboard which MUST be transferred with the keyboard in the same way if you sold a DVD boxed version of software, you need to include the serial too.

The seller needs to submit a license request to send the serial and this should all be done prior to purchase.

If you cannot get the serial from the seller then you may want to return it

    Thanks for your quick response.

Hopefully someone from NI can clarify this as there might be another way.

If they (NI) hold the details of the registered owner surely they could contact them to see whether they could initiate the process. If they've sold it on hopefully they wouldn't mind?

Not sure if they would do that as the onus is on the buyer to make sure they do their homework to make sure they get a valid license.

If it was purchased through ebay then you should have the right to initiate a return if the item is not functioning which it is not. If the posting did not state that the license was not included then you have grounds for return and paypal would be able to help you, but the longer you wait the less chance of that happening. The reason it was probably a "good price" is because the buyer has possibly already hit this snag and is trying to dump it off.

They will recommend not to buy second hand. thats a bit different i gues

But the problem here is , the guy that selled this to him doesnt have a license to transfer , that would be the dude before the guy that selled this
weird tho, because how did the seller use this… or dint he?.

When the actually owner would do a license transfer there should not be a problem i gues. but it get a bit harder when the license is with the pre-previous owner.

I would return the keyboard. and save up for a brand new product.

Simply reply to Benjamin stating you don't have contact with the seller and they will try to contact him/her for you. Keep in mind that, we absolutely need the confirmation of the "owner" to move licenses across accounts and without it, they wouldn't be able to release them.
If no luck with this step, best is indeed to return the keyboard.

Not entirely accurate, we'll just tell you to make sure to receive all the licenses ;)

Some sellers on Ebay are pawn shops, thus they're not informed or don't care about license transfers. They're not going to use the product themselves so they don't need the license. I've seen some state in their ads that they don't know if it can be registered, selling as is.

Sure thing and we would simply not recommend buying a second-hand product if you don't have all the information regarding licenses. Don't disregard all second-hand devices are a large number of customers are still mindful and know how to transfer their licenses.

Thanks for your reply Matt. It's a shame that NI can't just send an email to the original registered owner stating they need to confirm they've sold as these situations must arise quite often. Otherwise they'll be so many Komplete Products i.e. keyboards etc that will just become redundant.

Just curious as to what was stated in the Ebay listing.

That's what I said, registration support can always try to reach out to them. However, from a legal perspective, without a reply, there isn't much we can actually do.
