I just purchased my S61 keyboard. It is amazing except for one troubling issue. The pitch and modulation touch strips automatically go straight to the top no matter what and I just cannot get them to come back down or in the midline position. Has anyone experience this? I wrote to Tech Support but maybe someone else had the problem and found a solution and I won't have to go through the process of an exchange - I really want to avoid that if possible as I purchased it from Musicians Friend online and it would probably take two weeks in round-trip.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I am using a Win 7 64 bit system, Komplete Kontrol 3.9.2 Driver and Komplete 1.0.2 - happens both in stand-alone and plugin mode.

I'm having the same exact issue. If you've found a solution since your original posting, I'd love to hear it. Thanks.

It's good to see that it's not just me. No solution as of yet. I would start a ticket with NI. They have been slowly walking me through steps.

So far, I sent a video and also downloaded a troubleshooting application they sent me and sent that info back to them. Will let you know more.

Out of curiosity, where and when did you buy yours? I bought mine from Musician's Friend online on 12/1/14 - it may help narrow down the problem if multiple people with the problem purchased them from the same batch although if you read the forums, a lot of people are having issues. My money is on a driver issue but either way I've also opened a ticket with the retailer so that if this is not resolved by the end of this month I can at least return it. If you hear of a solution please let me know also.

Thanks for this update, Prakashi. I'd love to be kept updated, and I'm sure any lurkers reading this would as well.

I bought mine from Sweetwater on 12/10. I already reported this to my rep there and he said he'd keep his ear to the ground as well. He also let me know they'd be happy to fix it up under warranty - but neither of us are sure yet if it's a hardware or software issue. Did any of your communications with NI shed some light on whether or not it's hardware or something that can be fixed through a software update?

Did you install the firmware update for the keyboard?

Just checked for an update prompted by your post - it seems they just released an update today. (At least the date on it says 12/15.)

However, I just tried and the issue is still happening.

    To be specific:

The modulation touch strip gets stuck at the very top whenever it's "brought there." So, if you use the mod strip but don't ever go to the very top, it seems to be alright. But as soon as you actually "bring it to the top" it just gets stuck there, and the only way to reset it is to actually turn off and on the entire device.

No progress as of yet Avery B. I also installed the updates and no improvement. The problem is exactly what you discussed.

At least we know we aren't alone - I'm sure there's other people out there with the same problem if we both are experiencing it.

If you hear anything consequential back from NI, I'd love to hear it. I'll keep this thread updated with anything I learn as well.

Not only that. Yesterday's firmware update clearly shows, that NI is busy fixing all problems. But it will take some time until everything is sorted out. Conclusion: K10, KK and KKS were released too early.

It's good to see that NI is on it - as long as this is a firmware issue that they are aware of and on top of, I have no worries. I just hope that this is the case and this isn't a hardware problem.

Understandable, but I guess the touchstrip hardware is the same in all keyboards. And it are only the S61 keyboards showing touchstrip issues as it seems. My S49 e.g. works like a charm.

Indeed, good point. Hopefully this means it's just a patch away.

I think that is more likely, than the theory, that a batch of faulty touchstrips only found their way into the S61 and not the other two models.

I have an S61 and both strips work fine on Windows 7 and Mavericks.

I even plugged it using a non-powered hub to the mac without any problem. On both computers I used the USB cable included with the controller...

It seems not all S61 have problems ... I suspect a conflict of the MIDI driver on some Windows systems especially, when I see all those other S61 threads. Of course there's still the hardware issue theory ... time will tell.

    Indeed.

Just to chime in and provide a little more detail for the sake of it:

I am on a Macbook Pro, late 2011. 16 GB RAM. 2.4 GHz i7 processor. My DAW of choice is Logic X. I doubt this is necessary info, but it may be interesting to see if all of the issues are happening on a certain OS.

Prakashi, what OS are you running?

I can try it on Snow Leopard on my old 2008 macbook. Even on the Windows 8.1 of my mother later this week.

Would you guys want me to do it?

We have reports of S61 issues both in OSX and Windows with different DAWs. Especially under Windows it seems on some systems the MIDI driver wasn't installed correctly. So it might be interesting to start a new thread about the S61 to collect configuration information of those people, who have issues.

I think it might especially be interesting to compare audio interfaces and the used sample rate, because I had weird latency issues, until I switched from 44.1 kHz to 96 kHz.

Maybe certain audio interface drivers cause conficts with the S61 MIDI driver?

Same problem here s61 - but only on mod strip - purchased black friday GC whse. Hunted down the firmware update (thought that would have been part of 'service' center) this morning - went from 16 to 17 - seems fixed but only had 5 min to test before had to go to work. so far so good

Wondering if NI offers details of WHAT was fixed on the DEC 15 firmware update ? I need to get it back for a swap fast if this is a hardware issue - will test more tonight.

Yeah, that info is urgently needed in further firmware packs, because I downloaded installer 1.1.6 just to find out, that the included firmware for the Kontrol S keyboards was still FW17 ... wasted time for me :-(

PS: Interesting, that FW17 fixed above S61 touchstrip issue.
