Did you ever resolve your issues? I'm having very similar problems and have been through the uninstall reinstall cycle a few times now. Currently connection drops from my computer (and the device completely disappears) after playing a few keys. The firmware on it is 72 IIRC so I can't imagine downgrading to 69 will help...

I'm plugged in directly to the USB 2.0 port on mine...

Yes, I did get it to work with the good people from NI. In the end we found that for the motherboard I had, and for whatever reason, it worked if I hooked it up to the USB3 ports and not on the USB2.0 ports.

I have the same motherboard as you (running Windows 7) and yesterday I've encountered the same problem, went through almost everything you described here but without result, it seem that there's a problem with usb device driver and I don't know how to fix it.

 

Finally solved it, the problem was with the windows update KB4486563, after uninstall the controller works fine.
