komplete update vs. upgrade,& kore install

    I'm confused and afraid. I just got kore and and what was sold as the komplete 4 UPGRADE, I looked on the box though and under the barcode it says komplete 4 UPD, which I suppose means it's the update. I didn't even realize there were two options. I don't know which I needed, and I don't even know what what I bought is. What is the difference? Did I get a deal, or screwed, and what do I even need for my situation? Got it on ebay. Maybe the seller didn't even know. This is an old one though, it has a sticker about that deal with free Massive on the front. Meaning there will probably be old problems. Should I just install it and go look for updates? I have a mac book pro and powerbook. I Have komplete 3 on the powerbook.

    I want to put komplete 4 on the macbook, but only want to install certain upgrades on the powerbook (absynth 4, battery 3, etc.) and leave intakt on there possibly I think I can do that using a custom install. Let me know if I'm wrong. And should I have bought the update instead? Or maybe thats what I have. I don't know yet. I would be SO thankful for any guidance on those issues and also is it best to get Komplete up and running and then install Kore I guess? I also got Kore USED on ebay and the guy said he could just switch registration to my name and it would be the same as buying it new. Is that right? I hope. Advice or links to advice will be appreciated more than you know. I want to do this the right way, ONCE. I know these are alot of questions, thoughts on ANY of them would be great.

    Sounds like you got an upgrade/update (likely the same thing) which would mean you would have to have komplete 2 or 3 or some form of a previous product to upgrade from. Kore should be transferrable assuming the seller works with you on this.

    It came from someone who works at NI I think. This is what confused me.

    an update is not an upgrade concerning its license. the applications are exactly the same.

    - you'll buy a komplete 4 update if you own komplete 3

    - you'll buy a komplete 4 upgrade if you own kore, or more than 2 other NI products (the upgrade is normally more expensive than the update) you qualify for both because you own kore and komplete 3.

    kore as well as komplete 4 can be installed and activated on three computers.

    if you bought the upGRADE, you can activate it with kore as qualifying product, and you'll result with one komplete 3 and one komplete 4 license, which you probably don't need, as long as you work on the 2 machines.

    This is interesting....
    I was starting a new thread, when I read this...

    I'm a Komplete 2 owner who was somewhat forced to buy Kore to obtain the K4 upgrade (I mean that I had to buy Kore since the Italian NI distributor couldn't guarantee the delivery of a K4 upgrade before the end of february...)

    After activating Kore, I received confirmation and a K4 Package was sent to me.

    Now to the problem...

    I cannot activate K4 since the the "NI service center" tells me:

    "You have attempted to activate an update. No previous full version of this product is registered to your specified NI account"

    K2 and Kore are activated and working.

    By reading this, I understand that the wrong product (license) has been sent to me by Native Instruments... Am I wrong?

    I have already contacted NI support by filling a support request on the website, but I haven't received an answer, yet...

    hi gianni,

    please make sure, that you use the same NI account (login email adress) for the komplete 4 activation as you have used for komplete 2.

    that's what the error message suggests.

    I'm 100% sure, since I don't have any other account...

    In the NI Service center K2 and Kore are checked as "activated", while K4 is not.

    any other idea?

    I'd like to add another thought...

    I received an UPDATE licence for K4,

    but at the moment (if I'm understanding correctly), both K2 and Kore require an UPGRADE licence for K4 to work (I think K2 required an update before february the 28th, but not anymore).

    I may be wrong, but I think this might be an explanation to the problem.

    You're one step ahead of me, I was 'coerced' to upgrade to K4 as well, but haven't received any email notification yet, much less my komplete 4 upgrade :(

    This is strange... I received an email notification a couple of minutes after the Kore activation (I think it was an auto reply)...

    OK here's an update on my situation.

    On friday the 16th I received an answer to my support request....

    I've been told to check my serial number again...
    Nothing else.... No alternatives... WTF!!!?

    And they ask me to complete a new form again (and wait a few days again), in case I would like to answer...

    This is ridiculous.

    It's practically impossible to insert a wrong serial number... It won't even be accepted in the first place...

    So, as of now, I have been given two answers (1 in this thread and 1 privately), both of wich take for granted the fact that I must be doing something wrong, and every answer to further questions takes days...

    I have two images of my NI service center that I have captured. I think I'll send them to the support staff.

    Let's see how this goes on... At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if it takes weeks to solve the problem... Not good. I need the software to work.

    I will keep you informed.
