Kontakt 2.2.4 not too happy in Win 7? :[

    Win 7 (7100) (x64)
    Athlon XP4200+
    4GB Ram
    m-audio Delta 2496

I've been very happy with Win 7 and all most my VST hosts seem quite happy (the 64bit ones using their own BitBridges, etc.)

The only plugin that's been problematic is Kontakt2.

At first, the VST (and standalone.exe) were reporting an inability to "lock memory" due to administrative priviledges.

Anyway, I uninstalled Kontakt2, re-installed (without Kaspersky etc.) and "Run as admin" on each install process.

I don't get the memory error this time round, but I do get this on every instance:

    "KCONVERT.DLL is not installed properly"
    and
"Could not write QuickSearch database." on exiting the instance.

Also, after inserting a few K2 instances, I sometimes get a system freeze and a bluescreen (which hasn't happened elsewhere, even with some intensive games that use up quite a bit of RAM, so I'm not convinced it's faulty RAM, etc.).

Bite the bullet? (i.e., Kontakt3 upgrade) Or will the same happen in K3? :|

I'm not really surprised that K2 doesn't work in W7 because K2 was last updated a couple of years ago before W7 existed.

I haven't yet tested K3 in W7 so can't guarantee that will work, but we are days away from the big Kontakt 3.5 update, so I would wait until that's released and see what the specs on it are.

    Hi David,

Yeah, I think it's something to do with the way that Kontakt accesses the registry. In Win 7, a few things have been shifted around. There are still symbolic links in the file system to stuff like Application Data, etc. but Kontakt seems to have trouble writing information about the database, or remembering the library location.

I noticed that my DLLs were from around 2007, and those were the last updates.

Thing is, Kontakt2 was quite an investment for me (and it has more than made up for it!) so I really want to know that K3 will be okay in Win 7 x64 before spending those crucial creds. Thank you for your comments. :)
