What goes through the minds of software companies when they come up with sh1t3 like this? Please consider scrapping the "Service Center" in favor of the old system.

I have PCs. Ran into this problem on my desktop, since K3 was already installed in full when I installed K4. The weird part was that it had showed as activated after I installed the Kontakt 2.2 update--till I installed the Reaktor 5.12 update!
The workaround I found was to open the .xml keyfile (made a copy and opened that, just to make sure I didn't f*** the original up!) and copied the info for Kontakt 2 from the keyfile into the SC and hit "apply". Then I (re)activated it with SC. I can't explain it; I'm just glad it worked, and I hope I don't have to do it with each new update!

    Hi all,

I am really sorry about this mess!

we are currently looking into two really good leads from your posts here:

    1) the problem where Kontakt is moving from the Komplete 4 to the Komplete 3 tree in Service Center

    2) the problem with Service Center seems to not write the data coming back from the activation server back into the registry/plist

    best,
    Markus

Thankyou - at least we could help. But don't forget it's Reaktor 5.12 as well - that's my main app and I can't play it :(

    Hi,

I tried the procedure on my G5 2.0 as well as Mac Pro. The authorization process did not work on the G5. It produced exactly the same problems in exactly the same way as the Mac Pro. The one difference is I had Komplete 3 installed on the G5, so when you do the update to Kontakt 2.2, it is removed from the Komplete 4 list in the service center and moved to the Komplete 3 list.

As my Reaktor 5.1.2 UB authorized correctly the first time, it leads me to one suggestion as to where to look for the trouble in my case (non-Komplete package):

No NI software had ever been installed on my MacBook Pro (MBP). The install notes on this site suggested that the UB Updater would understand this and install anyway. This was not the case, and I realized I needed to do a "seed" install from my original disc, even tho I would not actually run that PPC version.

Now, when I installed from the original disc, I followed an instinct borne of 20+ years of this kind of experience, and used my OLD serial number from Kontakt 2.0. It never occurred to me that the old installer would recognize a much newer-vintage serial.

After installing, I ran the Updater. Then I ran Service Center. After it update itself, it asked for my serial number, and I gave it the NEW one for K2.2 UB. It claimed a successful activation, but as we all have experienced, Kontakt itself disagrees.

SO--- Could it be that the use of the old AND new serials during installation and updating and authorization confused the situation?

I ask, because the ONLY difference in how I installed Reaktor was that I used the new $29 serial for the UB version for BOTH the "seed" install from the original discs, and the Service Center auth process.

My 2 cents-- I hope it is of some help.

BTW Marcus--- THANK YOU for providing the timely updates of info; it really helps us stay calm! :)

    Hi Markus,

when can we expect some sort of solution (activation) for the Kontakt2.2 update problem? I would like (need) to use this program ASAP on my main machine. Meanwhile I have downloaded the Reaktor5.1.2 update. Should I expect the same problems I got from the Kontakt2.2 update?

    Regards

    Hi all,

yesterday our aktivation experts checked into scenario 1) and came up with a solution that is being implemented as we speak. we will try to contact two of you you explicitly stated that they have the Komplete 3 -> Komplete 4-> Kontakt 2.2 problem.

if there are more of you, please drop a quick me too post. I can get your email address from your forum account - no need to post it.

once this fix is confirmed, I will let all of you know! we will then deal with scenario 2) and possibly other scenarios below.

    best,
    Markus

Yes, me too - when I try to authorize with NI Service Center, Kontakt 2 moves from K4 to K3.

    Hi,

Just to be sure, I tried the K2.2 updater on my G5 again. I can delete the plist and reinstall K2 from the Komplete 4 DVD and authorize it. Before running the updater, I checked in the service center, and K2 is listed under Komplete 4. After running the K2.2 updater, K2.2 is moved to the Komplete 3 list in the service center and it is not activated.

    HTH

BTW: 4 all, who try to get a status quo ante (Kontakt 2.11):

System: Athlon 2.8, 1.5 Gig Ram, Win xp, Cubase SX3, NI Komplete 2, 3, 4.
To reinstall a working K2.11, I did the following:
(Be sure to have a working "NI_Komplete3_keyfile.xml")

    1. Uninstall any version of NI Service Center
    2. Uninstall Kontakt 2
    3. Delete all folders from C: called "Kontakt 2" and "NI Service Center" or "Native Instruments Service Center"
    4. Open the registry via "regedit"
    5. Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/Native Instruments
    6. Delete the key "Kontakt 2"
    7. If you find a key called NI Service Center, delete it
    8. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Native Instruments
    9. Delete the key "Kontakt 2" (and if you find it, NI SC too)
    10. Restart
    11. Put in your K3 installation disk
    12. When you are asked for the keyfile, chosse the correct path to keyfile and register.
    13. On my sytem Kontak2.0 was correctly installed, after this you can update to version 2.11

Hope this helps all of you,
    Thanks to Markus,
    Fred.

Well I have managed to manually activate Kontakt now on my laptop (though its a concern that I may still have problems when I try and authorise it on my other PC) - but I really need to activate Reaktor now

    I went from Standalone's for Kontact and Reaktor -> K2 -> K3 + KORE -> K4

If you have other products authorised with the SC (say Massive or K4) what happens to their activations when Service Centre isn't on the system any more?

Too bad that always the honest people have to pay a big price for the one's that warez appz.

I think I'll pass this update, atleast for a while, the last update got rit of some functions that I really loved to use (key commands!!!).

And reading all the misery in here doesn't convince me to install nor buy new NI products :) ...the faith is simply gone...

    Hi,

after successfully installing Kontakt 2, you can re-install SC, but don't update Kontakt 2.11.

    Greetings,
Fred (just another disappointed NI user)

HI Markus---I own Komplete 3...but I installed Komplete 4 from the 8 disc bundle I recently received on to my MacPro intel machine. No go on Reaktor, Kontakt, or ElectrikPiano...Everything else is good to go.
