First off, I apologize for not reading every message here but I'm running PT 8 (cs1) HD3 on a Mac Pro OS 10.5.6 and have been using Kontakt 3 with no problems whatsoever.

Well there ya go. Maybe you can talk dubaifox off the ledge...must admit - I haven't really studied what his issues are but if you are up and running...there must be someone doing things right out there.

PT8 without any issues huh? I find that hard to believe. Over on the Digidesign User Conference site (analogous to this site for NI), there are a host of people complaining about PT8 compatibility amongst NI products. You may be loading in very small sample sets.

Or . . . perhaps NI products work better with systems updated with cs1. I have to look into this.

No studying needed for my issues.

I am not even using it (as I have mentioned many times before) because NI does not support it.

I would need at least 10 more threads from PT8/Kontakt 3 users saying they are not having problems, to counter the myriad of issues and problems countless users have identified on the Digi forums.

One user saying it works on a forum is not much evidence, especially without any details.

    But FisherMusic...we are all ears.

Tells us what you are loading, how many voices and how much have you tried this? We are all ears!

    Cheers

I don't want to participate in this kind of NI bashing here but I think it's time for an official statement.

January is almost over. Thomas said it would be here in January. I'm sure if there were to be a setback he would've told us by now. So I'm sure that Thomas still expects a January release which means we should see it within the week.

    Right Thomas?

Oh C'mon... it's far from end of January....
I'm really happy that it's only 23rd... plenty of work to do still during these days for me... I guess for NI Dev team too.

I apologize for not believing you, but I'd love to have some egg on my face, if you can tell me how on earth you seem to be the only person in the world that can state "no probs whatsoever". According to Digi, NI has not yet optimized Kontakt for RTAS.

My guess is that once this is all settled, improvements will only be experienced on Intel Macs and PC's on that level, and all us G5 users will get left behind, which I'm getting used to by now, being 4 years behind the bleeding edge.
I've got E/W's Play and K3, sitting unopened on the shelf, waiting for some possible good news, but in reality I probably won't open them until I can afford an 8 core in a couple of years :-(

Right now, PT7.4 and K2.2.4 on Tiger isn't that bad, compared to the negative threads I see at digi, sos and vi-c, from people who are on the edge.

    Update idea for Thomas

    Dear Thomas.

I have not come here to bash you or Kontakt 3 but I'd like to echo what Michael DiMaria said:

So much of the negativity that appears on this forum could be avoided with regular, brief updates on the status of K3.5. I realise that that the official update status post has been technically correct all along (K3.5 is in development) but that is terse to the point of unfriendliness! and it leaves a void that people will fill with frustration and rumour, especially when there is any hint of an unexplained delay.

So, why not do a weekly status update - nothing long - a single line would suffice and any possible projections about a release date however uncertain. For example:

"Update going well, fine-tuning GUI, hoping to finish in early February"

which might be followed the next week with with something like:

"Have hit major technical problem with sample mapping. Release could be delayed to middle or late February".

You get the picture - it's like when your train stops in the middle of nowhere - the driver announces that there is a signal problem and that's fine but you want the driver to keep you regularly updated even if it is to tell you that there has been no progress. If you say nothing it "feels" evasive and creates a "them and us" feeling somewhat similar to the feelings provoked by evasive politicians.

    Alexandra.

I personally find it rude that NI has time to release so many new products without releasing updates to existing one which are very much in need of such. K3, has all to many bugs and I think NI should fix that before releasing new stuff.

    Hello again,

I am not loading large templates into K3 so who ever said that was right. But I've never been able to do that with any version of Pro Tools Or Kontakt. I've always had to run giga on a external computer for large templates.

Structure, Mach Five and Kontakt....none of these can handle large templates running inside Pro Tools. RTAS is very bad and will never improve.

That being said, yesterday I was running Addictive drums, K3 with about 4-5 sounds loaded, velvet, massive, b3, blue and omnisphere and only had one minor glitch all afternoon.

For me, PT8 is not really much different than PT7 other than the new midi editing functions. It still crashes the same as any previous version of PT.

    My Solution

Is to continue to use Kontakt 3 in Pro-Tools despite the compatibility issues as after using this product, it is impossible to go back to using my hardware synths (which cannot compete in the sound and effects departments).

I will just pray for an update which will allow these products to co-exist peacefully with host applications.

Well I bet that this is exactly the reason for the delay. I can even understand them.
BTW: on my Windows system K3 runs smoothly, no problems.

That may be the case, but, if so it would be nice for them to tell us.
And, what about the Pro Tools users base? We're running right now on Leopard with no K3. Waiting for Snow Leopard and then for Digi to qualify Pro Tools for Snow Leopard just leaves us out in the cold that much longer.

    Reality check time.

NI is obviously aware of this seemingly endless ranting over the 3.5 delay, and it is clear they are working on it. It's also clear that prolonging the rant isn't going to contribute to it coming out sooner. I'm sure they would have released it ages ago if they felt they could have done so.

I would respectfully suggest that those with specific issues such as PT8 compatibility spin those discussions off to other threads.

We're obviously all anxious to see 3.5. It can't come soon enough. It will simply be released when it is ready.
