Kontakt 3 doesn't start after installation

I have contact 3 (Widnows XP, SP2 etc...) and after installation it doesn't start. I see the splash screen, then soundcard configuration window and after 2 seconds Kontakt disappears. Doesn't lanuch at all.

What's wrong? Is this known issue with v3? I have lots of other NI applications (Absynth, Reaktor, FM8, Battery... and others like Cubase 4, WaveLab 6...) and all of them work properly.

Yes, I tried to install it several times, same problem every time.

 

How long do you wait before you cancel Kontakt 3? Try waiting a few minutes, since this may be some type of situation where Kontakt 3 is scanning all of your hard drives in order to build its sound database.

 

Whatever I do Kontakt is blowing away. Run Kontakt 3.exe, wait, do nothing, splash screen comes up, that soundcard configuration dialog, which quits after few seconds itself. Kontakt 3.exe is disappearing from list of processes, it's not even frozen, but it quits.

 

Maybe it doesn't recognize your soundcard. Not much point in starting, if there is no recognizable soundcard, is there? I am sure, there is nothing wrong with your soundcard, since you can use it with other applications, but there could be a bug in K3's audio configuration process.

 

If this is the case, than Kontakt 3 is using different method to work with the soundcard, because FM8, Reaktor, Absynth and Battery work properly...

BTW, Kontakt 3 works as VST plugin, it quits only in standalone mode.

I had exactly the same problem with Kontakt 2 (I haven't installed Kontakt 3 yet). The history was:

I Installed NI software on a clean install of Vista.
Since my firewire audio card did not yet have a Vista driver, I opted to temporarily use the PC's on-board sound card (Realtek). Kontakt would go poof just like it did with you.

When I got a Vista driver for my proper audio card, Kontakt fired up without any problem.

NI Tech Support agreed that it was a problem with Kontakt and they would address it in a future release. Sounds like that hasn't happened yet.

 

try changing the installation folder(if not done already )

 

I had similar trouble. At least K3 only starting in demo mode. Couldn't authorize it. The cure was to download a more recent Service Center from NI. Believe it or not, the Service Center on the installation cd did not work.

 

I have this problem with K3, immediate crash. I tried disconnecting my sound card in case it was that, but this did not help. I also had the same problem with the K2 upgrade and went back to using K2 as supplied.
