I am unable to install the latest Kontakt 3 upgrade. The installation programs tells me that it is unable to uninstall the old version of Kontakt 3. It instructs me to manually uninstall it. When I do this, I am then told that I must install the original Kontakt 3 program. When I do THIS I am then informed, when I attempt to install the upgrade, that it is unable to uninstall the old version of Kontakt 3 and I am back to square one and going around in circles.

Does anyone know what the hell is going on with this? If so, I would appreciate any help that you may be able to give me.

    Thanks in advance.

    PROBLEM SOLVED

The Windows Installer program was disabled in the Services section. Enabling it solved the problem.

I'm experiencing the same problem on a Mac running OS 10.5.7; however, I don't see where the installer has been disabled in the Services section.

Here's the full error message: "Cannot proceed with this update because the stored installation directory of the application is not valid. If you have manually renamed or moved the application directory, move it back to its original location, then start this update installer again. Alternatively, use the original full installer to reinstall before using this update installer."

Kontakt 3 is in the same place where it was originally installed by Komplete 5. NI: please fix the installer for Kontakt 3.5!

Just had this exact problem. Did a search and figured out that if you changed the name of your drive or if your drive has upper and lower case letters it won't work. Rename your drive what it was when Kontakt 3 was first installed and make sure it's all lower case. Pretty silly. But I was able to updrade to 3.5 after doing this.

You may also have to make sure that Kontakt is in the applications folder and not in a sub directory (ie Applications/NativeInstrument/...)
During the beta phase I always had to move my Kontakt3 folder (into the apps folder) everytime I wanted to update the beta.

Not sure if this is applicable, as my first d/l of the release 3.5 failed decompression... d/l'ing again as I write this.

Same problem here...trying to update to 3.5 and getting the same error as STB
No recollection of changing drivename...how could I check if it was called something else at the time of install...? Shouldn't the installer work around this by itself...
ah well...here's hoping for a fix...

    thanx

don't know if this applies to this but when i d/l'd 3.5 and went to install (i'm on mac) it said it couldn't for whatever reason..i forget.

but then i realized i didn't have my external drive connected with the kontakt library and when i connected it it installed fine.

    same problem here

I'm having the same problem. My K3 app has never been moved. The library drive might have been renamed, but there's no way I'll ever remember what it was. I'm giving up. I was excited about K3.5 but I guess it'll have to wait for another day. If anyone solves this problem WITHOUT having to do a ginormous reinstall of K3, please please post what you did.

Setup Error "Application cannot be found in the stored installation directory"

Tried uninstall, left libaries, reinstall K3 with same error. The install path is c:\program files\native instruments\Kontakt3

Should only have to install Disk 1 Installer Disk.

    Running WinXP SP1.

Enabled Windows Installer Service but that should just be for .msi not .exe?

Tried moving the Kontakt3.dll from vstplugins folder to main directory with no luck?

    Remark towards previous poster;
Should only have to install Disk 1 Installer Disk. If you uninstall first; uncheck uninstall library. Takes 2 minutes to install.

I am on OSX 10.5.7 and I have the Komplete 5 DVD installer....and there is no uninstall option in there so that is also a non-starter...
It does not feel right to install the entoire DVD again...and risk changing something else. Please NI, can you provide an update-installer for K3.5 that works around this issue?
    TIA and regards

K3.5 Upgrade "Application cannot be found in the stored installation directory" Fixed! for K3.5

I looked at the INSTALL.TXT file. It had a different directory path before the correct one of c:\\program files\native instruments\ Kontakt 3.

I copied the INSTALL file to another location and deleted the one under Kontakt3 directory. I then reinstalled Kontakt3 not the library. I was then able to upgrade to 3.5.

I don't have Komplete, but there should be a Install file as well?

I've been trying all sorts of things to get this to work, and no luck. The only thing I'm NOT going to do is install 3.0 from scratch. Please, NI, a solution to this that will work with OS10.4. Didn't this pop up in beta testing or something?

    Found a solution for Mac

I had the same problem with the 3.5 installer not wanting to install.
The error message I got started with "Failure Cannot proceed with this update, because the stored installation directory of this application is not valid."

I'm running Mac OS 10.5.7 on a MacBook and have Komplete 5 installed.

In the past I did rename my main drive and moved the Kontakt 3 library from an external HD to my internal HD.

Here's how I got the update to install:

    1. Browse to the folder /Library/Preferences
That's the library folder at the root of your HD, not the one in your user folder.
    2. Locate the file com.native-instruments.Kontakt3.plist
    3. Double click com.native-instruments.Kontakt3.plist
    4. The file will open in the Property List Editor application If it doesn't then control+click the file and under the 'open with' menu choose Property List Editor.
    5. Locate the ContentDir row and check if the value contains the right path. If it doesn't then change it to the current path of your Library folder.
    6. Locate the InstallDir row and check if the path is correct. If it isn't then change it to the current location of the Kontakt application

Note that each path starts with the hard disk's name and that each folder is seperated with a colon :
The path should also end with a colon :

    7. Close the file and save it

You should now be able to install the Kontakt update.

    Thanx dvdborn!

Editing the appropriate plist files showed the old name of the install, and
worked for Kontakt 3.5 as well as Massive, same thing there if anyone wants to know. Just edit the plist file "com.native-instruments.Kontakt3.plist".
In mycase it was the "InstallDir" line that needed editing.

    thanx again

Folks, I really think this is the WORST installer I have ever experience!

Really NI cannot be serious thinking that I rename my harddisk back to whatever it was 1 year ago (which I don´t remember) just because the installer does not contain any "locate" functionality?

I have gone through endless hours of re-installing already, because Kontakt 2 did not find samples anymore due to a harddisk exchange after a crash - and now this.

Please NI, get your things together and deliver an upgrade routine which does exactly that... everyone can do, so why can´t you?

    Thomas

P.S. Thanks a lot to "dvdborn" for showing a workaround. Shame on NI for such a crappy installer.

    Same Problem Here

There has been an ongoing problem with NI and the installations of several plugins recently. Kontakt 3.5 certainly isn't the first. I simply do not have the time to spare as to how to get an installer to perform what it was suppose to do - INSTALL!

NI I suggest you get on this problem right away and have a fix for us by this weekend. You owe prompt attention to this problem in order to restore faith of loyal customers.

Correct. The lack of support unfortunately seems to be a trademark of NI recently, which is really-really bad. In conjunction with faulty products, especially on the Mac platform, I refrain from buying further NI products, altough I really would like to.

And don´t get me started on the new website design - it is extremely sluggish, does no longer work on my mobile phone and takes me ages to find what I am looking for. Nice gimmicks but very annoying from a usability point of view.

Obviously, priorities at NI are a bit strange these days, because it´s not only me having the impression that marketing and new products are way ahead in favour of bugfixing and rock-solid software.

    Nope

I am not able to install KONTAKT, MASSIVE and FM8 updates. All result in the beforehand mentioned error "Failure..."

Now my drive was not renamed and i have looked at all three .plist files and they show the path as it should be. So I am clueless as what to do to get this to work.

Very disappointed from the customer point of view since K5 does not come cheap and when you are not even able to install stuff it seems that NI cares little about it's customers.

Yeah now you can also add the KORE 2.1 update to the list. THIS SUX BALLZ
    ---
So this is F-in ridiculous. I have noticed that in one of my user library folders the plist files list's the path as macHD :Application"etc. So apparently there was a space in the name of my drive and that made it not work.

Are you serious? NI get your s#!t straight
