I am currently using Cubase 4 32-bit on my Windows 7 64 bit computer. I have installed Kontakt 4 64 bit, but it won't work as a VST within Cubase for obvious reasons.

Would it be possible to further install Kontakt 4 32-bit on the same computer ? Or do the DLLs have the same name ?

I will be moving to Cubase 6 64-bit once Steinberg have ironed out a few bugs (in say a few months), so I want to keep my installation of Kontakt 4 64-bit if possible.

    What's your advice ?

    Best Regards

I use 32-bit hosts on Windows 7 64-bit at the moment. I can't check now, but I think the dlls have the same names.

I installed both - selecting different folders for the 32-bit and 64-bit VSTis. You'll need to ensure that Cubase finds the 32-bit dll files and does not trip up on the 64-bit dlls. The installed standalone is, of course, 64-bit.

I have both 32 bit and 64 bit Cubase 6 installed along with both versions of all the NI komplete stuff and loads of oter 32 + 64 bit plugins - all works fine.

Just make sure you get the folders right. Also with cubase its worth looking through the plugin manager if running the 64 bit version to disable duplicates and ensure it sees only the right version.

Just a quick comment: on my Win 7 64bit system, libraries load noticeably faster in the 64bit Kontakt VSTi than they do in the 32bit version. Before background loading, the 64bit version would load large libraries in a quarter of the time the 32bit version required; with background loading, however, the difference is less pronounced.

Just posting this because there seems to be a misconception in some quarters that even when you're on a 64bit system, 32bit plugins are by default more "efficient".

No misconception here. The OP is currently using Cubase-32 so he'll need to make sure it finds the correct versions of Kontakt VSTis.

Thanks everyone for your contributions. This afternoon I will install the 32 bit Kontakt VSTi, and adjust Cubase to ignore the 64-bit version.

    Thanks again.
