    Hi,

I have a mac pro quad core with 16gb of ram and 4 hard drives. Kontakts libraries are stored on a separate hard drive so it doesn't have to fight with Cubase 5 etc. Im also on OSX 10.5.7

I have run into a problem where It was all working fine and now I can have a blank project with just Kontakt open and one instrument (in this case I've tried studio drummer) if i hold say about 5 keys and play them over and over the ASIO peaks into the red and does a popping sound and then settles back to steady low blue again.

I have opened macs activity monitor and Kontakts engine monitor and had a look at both the RAM and CPU for spikes and nothing at all spikes and is well within the limit. If I look at the Disk on the activity manager there a spikes (Both green and red) but this doesn't spike with every click and pop.

What do you think the issue you maybe?

    Hope you can help
    Many thanks
    Joe

I have a similar problem but I see no ASIO spikes. The Kontakt CPU meter spikes and then I get a popping sound, but the Ableton CPU meter is fine. Further, if I run latency checker while doing testing, I get no spikes there. It is just with Kontakt. I tried disabling multi-core support, changing the instrument from DFD to sampler, running Kontakt standalone or just in Chainer, upping my ASIO buffer to insanely high amounts - nothing is working. I really hope this is a known bug that gets resolved because right now Kontakt is fairly useless to me.

    Hi,

Do you use studio drummer at all when it spikes?

Not me, I don't have Studio Drummer.

    Hey guys,

you are not alone (see my thread about Kontakt 5 needs optimization). While I am working with Logic, it seems that Kontakt 5 is extremely CPU hungry even with small (self-made) sample sets and no further tweaking inside the sampler.

CPU spikes, noises (pops/crackles) and disk spikes apear in larger songs when using more than 1 Kontakt 5 instance.

Unfortunately, we´ll have to wait and see beyond 5.0.1 (at least for me, the latest update has not changed anything).

    Cheers
    Tom

I know this is an old thread but maybe this will still help somone. I just recently purchased (July 2012) Komplete 8 Ultimate and I too noticed the spikes. I'm running Win7 64bit with 16 gigs of ram, dual core AMD processor and Cubase 6.

I found out that the drivers for my M-audio 2496 were causing the problem, but the problem only happens when using Kontakt 5.

So I tried Asio4All and for now it helps me till I drop the midi down to audio tracks. So try that, just Google Asio4All and download it.

    Hope this helps,
    Roderick

PS: By the way, yes I used Studio Drummer religiously!

    Hey Roderick,

don´t worry, sometimes older threads are as useful as new ones :)

Regarding CPU spikes etc., I must say that on the Mac side, things are okay since the latest updates. I am not sure if you have already checked with "Service Center", if there are new versions available? Usually the DVDs ship with much older releases.

    All the best
    Tom
