Heya, I wasn't 100% sure where to ask this

Currently, during this sale, Kontakt 5 and Komplete 11 both cost 200$, but I have no idea what's the difference between them, I tried looking up videos, threads, comparisons, etc, but I can't seem to find out...

I am a Game Dev with 0 Libraries right now, and I need to choose either Kontakt 5 or Komplete 11...
Can anyone tell me anything that could help me understand their differences? is there one that's clearly better than the other? is Kontakt 5 needed to use Komplete 11? etc etc etc...

    Hi Chironyx,

The Komplete 11 Select edition (200$) doesn't include the full version of Kontakt but the Free Kontakt Player. With this version you can only open the "powered by kontakt player" libraries. All the Native Instruments libraries will work with the Free Kontack Player.

Komplete 11 Select edition contains some instruments (powered by the Free Kontakt Players and the Free Reaktor 6 Player) and some effects.
You should see in the product page.

I'm sorry for my lack of understanding, but this seems all rather confusing for someone as new as me

I am aware that there are sound libraries that need Kontakt 5 to run, and some that can run on the free kontakt player, but when I look at the packs, I'm basically only looking at the instruments they provide, as with my budget, I will only be buying one of these, and a library that's called "Super Audio Cart" in a few months, that doesn't require Kontakt 5 to run, only the free player.

So instrument-wise, is it smarter for me, as a guy with 0 libraries, to get Kontakt 5? if I understood correctly, it comes with the things in this page?:

    https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/samplers/kontakt-5/library/

Yet, Kontakt 5 seems to have 1000 instruments on 43GB, but Komplete 11 has 2500 "sounds"? and 25GB of instruments

I need a "for dummies" sort of explanation, my experience with music is making tracks in FL Studios...

    Hi Chironyx,

It's not easy to tell you wich is the best.
    • With Komplete 11 you will have some interesting instruments (Synths, Drums, Pianos, Vintage Synths) and effects, you'll be able to use many good "powered by ... player" libraries ("Super Audio Cart" is a good choice :)),
      The synths are good.
I don't like Drumlab but it can do the job.
      The Electric piano is good.
I think you will like the vintage synths.
      The West Africa are ok
The others instruments are ok but they should have put a good drum kit and a good bass.
    • With Kontakt you will have the library of 43 GB with some good, horrible, terrible or interesting instruments. But you will be able to use many good "not expensive" commercial libraries and many good free ones too. You will be able to make your own instruments with your own samples (good luck not easy to start :p).
I would choose Kontakt because I use many free libraries and many "not expensive" libraries of Embertone Sampling, Impact Soundworks and other vendors. But on the other hand, if you want to make Game Music a good synth might be useful.

    I hope I didn't bring to much chaos ;).

ps: Sorry for my bad english, I hope I wasn't rude.

No chaos, rudeness or bad english, this was just the kind of answer I was looking for!
With your tips, I'm heavily leaning towards picking Kontakt 5, it has choirs that could provide for heavenly or epic tracks, it has "band" which might furfill my guitar and bass needs, and funny enough, I went over to look at the synths you mentioned on Komplete 11, to see if I like any of them, and I only liked "Retro Machines MK2" and was like "Oh man, guess I'll have to let this nice one go..." and then noticed that it's on Kontakt 5 as well! Hahaha
Kontakt 5 will provide me with all the tools I need, and a plentiful of synths too, and if I'll lack anything, Super Audio Cart will fill the gaps greatly, plus I'll get the free "Stroh Violin" and "Cinematic synthetic drums" from Impact Soundworks.

Thank you for taking the time to answer this, I think I made my choice!
