    Hi there,
I've updated to Kontakt 6.6 and while I can load my old projects, they are pretty much unusable.

It seems that the output configuration went bad. Some instruments are played back on multiple channels, with heavy phasing, while the settings still look ok, but just look ok.

I read the Nuendo thread, but setting it all up again, can only be a last resort. Any other ideas or solutions?

    Thanks a million
    Peter

    Hey Peter,

    - Are you on Windows or Mac?
    - Can you provide an example(s) of a library you are experiencing this with?
    - If you remove the Kontakt vst3 plugin and then load your old projects, does it also happen with 6.6.0 vst2?

    Thanks

    Hi Yaron,

I'm on Windows 10. At least with the Abbey Road Drum series and I haven't tried to delete the VST3.

Your support offered me a downgrade and I guess I will try it, but I'll give the removal of the VST3 a go upfront.

    Thanks alot
    Peter

OK your keyboard might be broken. That post is so difficult to read. But at least it's not all caps lock...

So, removing the .vst3 lead to nothing playing at all, outputs were visible, but not a single sound came through. The Evolution Rick in the first slot told me, it wasn't initialised and I should connect it to an output, which it still was and changing the output or trying to send it to another one, didn't work as well.
So I put the vst3 back in its place and the problem returned as it was.
The Abbey Drum lib in this case was the Modern Drummer, the Grandeur and Sunburst Deluxe came through to wrong channels as well.
The Toms for example were routed to a unique output, but were doubled on the hihat channel. To keep it short, my mix is unusable in that state.
Whether the drums are the culprit or the Kontakt version itsself is impossible to say.
As soon as I receive the downgrade, I will try that and maybe upgrade at a later point.

When you attempted to load the project with Kontakt 6.6.0 VST2 - did you already save the project in that "broken" state and load it that way, or are you loading your "old" project before it broke?

One more question Peter Brandt - If you start a new project with Kontakt VST3 and Abbey Road and go to Kontakt's output section, the section shows correctly your outputs, and if you map some stuff in Abbey Road to outputs, save and reload the project - this project is fine?

I suspect it has something to do directly with the vst2->vst3 migration.

In reply to your first question, no I didn't save the broken state. I had to for the file I sent to you, because I had to strip it down, but my own regular version is still in its old state.
Regarding your second question, I haven't tried that, so I quickly created an empty project and inserted Kontakt as a rack instrument.
As others already noted, it gave me a 5.1 output, two stereo outputs and some aux. Due to time constraints I routed only the snare to stereo2 and kept the rest on default. Save, exit and reload worked.
I'm not sure, if this would work on a more serious project as well, but you're probably right.
I hope, that my projects will load correctly, after installing the legacy version :).

Thanks again Peter Brandt . Can you let me know which exact Cubase 11 version are you on? You can see this in the Cubase about screen.

    I haven't updated to 0.30, so I'm still on 11.0.0.

    Ok thanks again!

The one other question I would have: When in the “bad” state (mixed up outputs), does it fix things to save the whole project, close, and then re-open?

I tried your last idea and I'm sorry to say, that it didn't work. Too sad, I was quite hopeful for sec, without any particular reason.

I think I found a solution (at least for myself...).
The updated Kontakt changed the default outputs to two stereo outputs and the third was a 5.1 output for some reason. My previous default output setting was to have 16 stereo outputs.
So when I opened any project which had Kontakt instances, all of my multi outputs now had the third output as 5.1 and messed up all my projects.
When I tried to open a new Kontakt instance it had the same new "wrong" default outputs (two stereos and one 5.1). So I had to open a new Kontakt instance and set up 16 stereo outputs as a default and when I opened the project again, it was ok - all of the 5.1 outputs were gone and changed back to stereo.

Nice approach, thank you. I'm working with different setups, sometimes 8 stereo and some mono channels, sometimes 12-16 stereo channels, so I guess I'm unable to copy your idea, but I'm sure this will do it for quite some people.
For now, I'll switch back to the last version and hope for the best.
    Thanks for posting!

    Are you also on Windows?

Just trying to figure out a common denominator, still can not reproduce the issue on our side.

Yeah, on Win 10 and actually Cubase 10.5 Pro.
In short, the problem for me was that 6.6 had a new default output setting (didn't use my default setting for some reason) and it affected existing projects as well which was strange.

Hello, i have just posted a new thread about it, so sorry for the bis repetita
I have the same problem here
(First of all, i am French so i am going to try to do my best to explain... Sorry fot the maybe "Lost in Translation" effect.)

Since Kontakt update, all my outputs in Cubase Pro 10.5 's projects (Windows 10) are broken.
I have created new outputs with the "Delete existing..."*but even if Kontakt seems to be OK :

Cubase keeps interpretating St.3 as a Surround Output meaning the Mix Console is after St.3:
St.4 and St.5 play through St.3 with spatialisation issues (further sound).
    St.6 plays through St.4
St.7 plays through St.5 and so on...

    thank you

Can all of you that posted here please attach your default output files (outputs_vst.cfg file and the others), just zip the whole default folder and attach, please? This can REALLY help us.

On mac it is in: /Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Kontakt/default
On windows it is in: C:\Users\your.name\AppData\Local\Native Instruments\Kontakt\default

    Thanks again for everyone's time/
