Seeing how we're now at 5.7 version of this great sampler it seems version 6 is probably on it's way. Anyone knows if it will support VST3? Is it realistic to expect that it will?

Nobody except NI knows that, and usually they don't divulge features before a release date. At least I don't recall that ever being the case with Kontakt.

I'm not that hopeful (and in fact am not bothered by lack of VST3 personally).

Thanks for your help EvilDragon. I was thinking Cubsse users would be eager for VST3 support but maybe i was wrong.

I wonder i hard it would be to implement that. I know nothing about programming. Maybe it's not worth the trouble.

It is a non-trivial effort that needs a decent amount of time, especially with a 10 years old codebase that Kontakt is... VST3 is completely different from VST2.

What would the advantage be if K6 was VST3?

For me it's that I'd be able to use note expression with kontakt. Not sure if there are other benefits.

Note expression would need support from libraries - so even if theoretically Kontakt 6 comes out with VST3 and NE support, any libraries out there would not support that and they'd need to be updated. So, not exactly a magical solution you're looking for.

Not in my case. At least i don't think so? I just want to do things like draw curves on a note per note as oppose to do it below in the editor like we normally do. CCs like expression and pitch bend. Are you saying the library as to be design for that? I tough i could do that with all VST 3?

Yeah, that wouldn't quite work out of the box as you're hoping to.

Wow! I didn't expect that at all. Anyway, thanks for all your help.

Vst 3 would allow direct access to 64 different midi channels with a single instance. That's the biggest thing for me.

Only if it was actually implemented.
