Can anyone tell me what kConvert is for?

My Spectrasonics (trilogy/atmosphere) plug-ins have stopped working (nasty speaker-breaking clicks) and I have traced the problem to "kconvert" - some process that Kontakt runs in the background that seems to be screwing up the .dat files.

Can anyone shed some light on what is happening, and maybe how to fix it?

    Thanks.

Well, kconvert should be the sample-format-converter for Kontakt - the app that is called to convert other libraries to native Kontakt format.

Seems strange that this should cause problems with other VIs.....

I found a KConvert log file where it just mentions stuff it has done to Trilogy and atmosphere, e.g.:

    Out of main() function...
    Entering KConvert with /Volumes/Sample Library/Spectrasonics/Atmosphere.dat
    FileType: 0
    Translate: False

...and it goes on like that for quite a while. It is dated right when Trilogy and Atmosphere stopped working (well, not just stopped working - any Logic session with them in makes speaker-killing noises!).

Well, the speaker killing noises and logic - seems like a lot of NI stuff does that - here it is Absynth4.
Email support and they tell you to reinstall.

you might want to email garth@chickensys.com, maybe he knows something.

KConvert can't break other plug-ins. The log file you saw is just an indexing thing. KConvert are some routines that Kontakt calls when it needs to import foreign formats. It works within Kontakt. It doesn't alter anything.

You should contact Spectrasonics about the problems with their plug-ins, but it's not KConvert related.

Shame on you for looking where you aren't supposed to look! =) =)

    Just kidding

KConvert used to look at .dat files for other reasons. Wound up crashing Kontakt, so it was fixed. I assume you are using an old version of Kontakt/KConvert. Update.

Spectra sonic is a flakey plug. I would expect little help or compatibility from them.
