    hello everyone

I would very like to use the ableton push's aftertouch capabilities to Play with the Kontakt Factory Instruments like Strings, Horns etc.
At Default, the instruments react only to velocity: if I press a key softly, the sound is played quiet as long as i hold the key. when i press the key again, harder this time, the Sound is louder and more expressive. just as it should be. but what would really improve the whole Thing is if it would react to aftertouch, too! so if you start pressing a key very softly and then Keep pressing it harder you could "fade" in the Sound and Play really expressivly with the pressure.
I do this all the time in MASSIVE for example and other synths. but i found no way mapping the aftertouch to the KONTAKT FACTORY INSTRUMENTS.
how could this be achieved? I use Ableton Live and NI KOMPLETE 9.

    regards

I haven't ever programmed this myself, but it should be possible within Instrument Edit mode.

Aftertouch (both mono and poly) is available as a modulator, so you just have to apply it to either the Source or Amplifier (or other) module of the instrument you want, and then adjust it to taste.

    Hi David

    Thank you for your reply.

I tried to do that and tried out some configurations with poly-aftertouch and mono-aftertouch mapped to volume, but i can't get it to work.
I attached 2 screenshots of the instrument. One is showing the instruments normal interface and its current settings (actually i only changed the "velocity" knob), the other one is showing the edit-mode where i expanded the two modulation-sections where I tried things out. I reloaded the instrument afterwoods before taking the edit-mode-screenshot, so you can see what the default-setup looks like.

Could you be a little more specific on what i have to do?

    Regards

Unfortunately I don't have a controller with aftertouch so I can't demonstrate this for you clearly. But I think from your first screenshot, you're on the right track.

One big asterisk: when you added this modulator, you might be adding it to the currently active group (if EDIT ALL GROUPS is off) or you might be adding it to *all* groups (if EDIT ALL GROUPS is on). This is a tricky thing to diagnose. Perhaps just for starters, make sure EDIT ALL GROUPS is on, that way you are positive it's taking effect across everything (then you can remove it from specific groups later, or redo the whole thing once you've figured it out).

So, just to be sure: delete the mono aftertouch modulator you added, turn EDIT ALL GROUPS on, and now re-add the mono aftertouch modulator.

In your first screenshot, the slider for mono aftertouch is set very low (less than 10%). Try turning that up to 100%. If you do that, and if EDIT ALL GROUPS is on, you should now hear a VERY obvious pitch alteration when it receives aftertouch. Try that first. If that works, then you can tweak its specific behavior to taste.
