I hope someone can help me with this. I'm rather a beginner, so this question is possibly very basic. I'm trying to assign a midi-track in Cubase to a Kontakt instrument. I've made VST-connections and my soundcard Focusrite Scarlett says it has midi in and out. A assign the instrument to the midi-track. For input I have "all midi inputs". But the output says "Kontakt 5 - midi in". That is strange right, that should be out? I don't hear anything, although the volume-meter is showing that there should be sound. On the input list there is an option for Kontakt out?? Can someone tell me the steps what I should do to get this right?

OK, an instrument track that is added with VST Kontakt works now. But isn't it possible to make existing midi-tracks play threw Kontakt via midi out. Why do I not see Kontakt midi out under the outgoing options. I see midi in there. All the settings I did are exactly as shown in the movies you described.

Yes, you need to check your input/output settings for the track.
Or compare what the input/output-differences are to adding an instrument track.

    What are your options here?

Basically Kontakt takes the MIDI input (as example from a MIDI file or a MIDI keyboard) and plays back the corresponding audio output (of the MIDI notes, etc.): MIDI input --> Kontakt --> Audio Output

If you are not planning on sending MIDI output to trigger a different MIDI track, instrument or plugin, you don't need to use it.
    As simple example:
    • Track 1 holds a MIDI file
    • Track 2 has Kontakt loaded and gets the MIDI input from Track 1 (which is the MIDI output from the MIDI file):

I'm still very confused by this all. When I import a midi into Cubase all tracks are automatically assigned to Halion Sonic. They play OK! But I want them to play via Kontakt. So I have added a VST-instrument under Halion Sonic. Now I want to select under midi-out this Kontakt VST. But it shows Kontakt 5 - midi in. I don't here anything. When I add an instrument-track and assign it to Kontakt, the midi-out is OK (I can select the 3 options of Kontakt). How can I change the midi-out of a midi, so that it directly plays to Kontakt, just like it plays via Halion?

Try to click on the Halion entry and change/swap the Halion instrument to Kontakt.

Thanks! Going to see if this works for me. Exactly what I am trying to do.
