we could create some projects like my cubase one with 32 kontakt instances, each has 4 instruments loaded and share them.
So we can compare and bring some light into the dark. Of course with maschine, live, bitwig and so on too. But i don´t know how to sort it that it makes sense.

So, just a quick update: I went with the i9 9900K 32GB pro audio build from Scan and....I’m kinda of unsure why I’m not getting the performance I was expecting.

Scan already set the build up and did the necessary tweaks for audio, and I have also followed all the usual tweaks regarding power settings in Windows, Asio settings in Cubase etc.

However, on my first test today, just loading 3 instances of Kontakt (piano, guitar, and drums) and a pad in Hive is pushing the performance meter in Cubase to nearly halfway. Added a couple of Pro Q3s and things got worse.

I really don’t want to start bouncing to audio on such a small project - that was the whole reason I upgraded from my 10 year old Win 7 dinosaur.

I understand that this isn’t a NI problem, but I know a lot of you use Cubase and wonder if this is what I should expect, or if something is wrong.

Btw, I have no GPU installed yet (though will be putting in GTX 1650 to help out video edits) and I’m on all SSDs. All drivers, bios etc are up to date. The PC is 4 days old.

I’m now wording if my older Focusrite Scarlet 6i6 first gen is letting the system down a little. I’m thinking this, because even when I up the buffer, I’m still not seeing the performance metre go down...

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

That's really, really odd, my meter barely moves with 4 Kontakt instruments a few Pro Q3s and I am on an i7 8700k, so something is wrong with your settings.
    - What's your buffer size? With a GPU I can go with a buffer of 32, without it I have to go at the very least double.
    - Check if your CPU is running at full speed, (3.6GHz) with CPU-Z or something similar when the Cubase project is open, if it's not it's most likely a power-saving option.
-Check if in Cubase you have "Multi-Processing" and "Audio Priority" set to "High" under Device Setup > VST Audio System.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks it’s a bit strange! :)

For this tiny test project, I was using the buffer set at 256. Interestingly, once again raising it to the max (the Scarlett only lets me go to 1024) made zero difference and didn’t reduce the half-full performance metre at all. I’m hoping this indicates that the Scarlett 6i6 driver is causing the problem, but Focusrite don’t hold earlier rollback drivers on their website, so I can’t check another one to confirm this.

Also, yep, CPU-Z shows full speed, and multi-processing, high priority etc is all set up as suggested.

Looks like I’ve got a complicated few days ahead trying to solve this! I really thought I’d be flying with this PC.

EDIT: If I may ask, what audio interfaces are you all using?

    I am on a Scarlet 2i2 V1 and a Komplete Audio 2.

    Hmm, that’s really interesting! Thanks.

I’ve tried just about every suggestion I could find online just, but still no luck. I can still only get a few instruments running, and that’s on the condition that I stay at 44khz...anything higher and the meter shoots up and raising the buffer does nothing.

I’m very tempted to buy a Komplete Audio or the Steinberg UR242 (has more I/O that I’d need) to hopefully get some compatibility because the Scarlett 6i6 is clearly not happy with my system.

All checked :) Scan included it along with CPU-Z for diagnostics. I’ve tried it several times today and all bars stay tiny and green, and it says the PC is fine for audio. To be fair, I’m not getting spikes or anything, just a ridiculously small amount of VSTs fill up the performance meter.
I’ve been using Cubase and NI together since C4. This is the first time I’ve encountered anything like this, so I can only think it’s the Scarlett.
