When deciding on which Komplete Kontrol keyboard to buy, a factor in the decision is based on how it works with Kontakt instruments.

My preference for keyboard is the s61, however I am wondering, when it comes to Kontakt instruments, how many keys are generally mapped?

If I get the S61, instead of the S88 am I going to run into issues where some of the controlling keys are not available because the keyboard doesn't have enough keys?

From what I have seen often the middle range keys play the sounds, and it looks like the very upper and very lower key zones are used for special features within the Kontakt instrument,

But I am not sure is usually the upper and lower regions are within the scope of the 61 keys or is they go outside the playable zones on the S61

Can anyone tell me how this works with the S61?

    hope this all makes sense!

I think you find it depends on the instrument. Some instruments (such as a Cello/Bass) play in the low register so the key switches (if any) will be in the higher key register and vise versa

I am not aware of any instrument that has keyswitches in both low and high registers. I have an S61 and have had no such issues.

    Thank you for your reply.

Here is an example of what I am concerned about. the bottom red section and the upper section looks like its more the 61 keys.

Yes, some instruments use more than 61 keys. You will need to use the transposition feature in that case (OCT +/- buttons above touch strips).
