I've installed Kontakt on a standalone Win10 PC and successfully loaded Berlin Concert Piano. I can hear audio from the Player, no problem. But when I try to output a midi stream to it via a USB adapter I hit a wall. The adapter clearly shows data flowing through the cable and I set midi channel on the Berlin page in Kontakt to Port A (USB2.0-MIDI) Channel 1, still I hear nothing on audio coming through. When checking the main setting on Kontakt it shows the USB2.0 Midi adpater under midi inputs as "Off." There appears to be no way to turn to "On" or even Port A. So, I'm stumped. Any ideas out there? Have pity on this forum's newest newbie.

Is the port open or in use by another App? windows only allows one app to access a midi device at a time...if Kontakt wont let you select it, it is in use.

when I said port, I meant the midi device (USB 2.0 Midi input device)

That was it. I had another sequencer up at the same time. Closed it and problem solved. Thanks so much for the guidance. It's nice to see it finally functioning after all the headaches to get it set up.

Hi Chris, welcome to the forums!

(edit: and you already solved it... oh well, I'd still recommend Reaper though :))

In addition to what Eddie mentioned above me... why would you want to use Kontakt standalone?

Not saying that this can't work to play stuff, but you may be better off using a DAW, load Kontakt in it and that would give you the option to play but also to record your work as well.

My suggestion would to be to download Reaper (see this link). It's a DAW which you can use free of charge and it might help to sort out this issue because it'll have more options to utilize MIDI, that might also give you some clues as to what is going on here.

I wanted to use it as a standalone VST sampler eventually. I've got a separate PC running an Anvil Studio sequencer. Ultimate goal is to graduate into a DAW setup. The version of Komplete I bought turned out to be already registered which I'm trying to straight out. I went with Anvil originally because it was simple and free. My first dive into midi was 30 years ago and I stepped away from it back then due to my lack of time to pursue it. Life happens. I'm nearly 70 now and I've got the time if not the money to learn again. I'm two years into of my re-education and building a small home studio (Roland A-90, Roland SC-88, Yamaha TG300 and Yamaha DGX-660). I could only dream of software samplers like these back then thus my facination with Native Instruments. I'm still fiddling with Cubase, too. Thanks for the tip on Reaper, I'll check it out.
