It would be nice to be able to purchase kontakt without the instruments. I'm not a big fan of kontakt sounds. And certain companies like sonicoutre have sound fonts that only load with the full version of kontakt. Or NI could just do away with the free version and have one version. Kontakt.

Or sonicoutre could supply a version that works with the player. Anyway sorry not going to happen, either you buy it or download the player:

I have the player. I think it's a licensing issue. Sonicoutre probably doesn't want to pay NI. Apparently with the player version the third party companies have to.pay a fee to NI. I don't know if that is 100 percent accurate? Maybe someone here knows. Anyway I don't really understand why they would choose not to sell the barebones kontakt.

They do sell Kontakt on it’s own ... without Komplete... and it’s not cheap
    https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/samplers/kontakt-5/
But you have to look at the big picture with Kontakt... yes the third party sellers pay a fee or a portion of sales to NI ...in exchange they join a platform of other high end sample libraries... NI’s end of the deal is they provide that platform and do the security ( making it more difficult for libraries to be pirated) .. they attempt to strike a balance between what the consumer wants and what developers want... (I think)

I think OP wants to buy Kontakt without the "On-board library with 1,000+ instruments and 43+ GB of content" as listed on the standalone players page. So you just want the engine and populate with 3rd party sounds instead of what comes with the player? Yeah, that's not an option. Would it be nice? I guess it could be. It would probably lead to way more confusion for NI though, to fragment their products like that, with customers buying just the engine thinking they were getting the library as well, which most people will want.

Yes that is right. I don't want the library. Just the player. With regards to NI's security. That's a bit laughable. Take a look around, you can literally find any NI library that's pirated. Have I had software in the past? Yes. But I ended up deleting them. Many times I've tried software just to see if it's worth buying. I don't condone downloading illegal software. But to say NI has good security.... Well... I disagree. It's basically a Mercedes left running with the key in the ignition windows down. In Compton. at 1:00 am.

I never said that Kontakt had/has good security.. and I'm in no position to judge... I believe compared to what came before Kontakt it is/was seen as an improvement... Will NI continue to dominate.. we'll see with Kontakt 6 ( some developers have started to make their own players)

Isn't the factory library a separate download with the player? Surely you just don't download the library.

Regardless it seems the OP's main issue is that Sonicoutre won't work with the Kontakt player. IMHO he should ask Sonicoutre to do a player version.

The funny thing is that I went to the Sonicoutre website, and every instrument I've checked, have all been Kontakt Player Compatible

I know how you can get Kontakt for the Crossgrade price, if THAT helps anyone.

    https://www.native-instruments.com/...Player&cHash=cad990bbe9312ae5db6895aea616a2fb

go here and look for DrumMic'a... read the discription . ummmm the website is in German, but your browser may be able to translate it so that wont be an issue. Register the product in Native access and BOOM you qualify for the crossgrade of Kontakt.. for free! not exactly what you wanted, but i just wanted to tell you guys that...

No I emailed them yesterday because they won't load in the player. They said I need the full version to load their instruments.

Maybe you can try going on KVR and seeing if you can get a deal with someone who has the full version For Sale

Here's the deal... If whoever makes the Instrument want it to play in the free Kontakt Player they need to pay a licensing fee to NI, AFAIK this license is not that expensive, when the company doesn't want to license their instrument the users need to have Kontakt full version. (Anyone can make an instrument and share it) But the odd thing is, when that's the case the instrument should just get stuck in demo-mode with a 15min time limit but still load...

Kontakt is a really powerful platform, it's default libraries are just thrown in as a bonus, they don't inflate the price, if you don't like them don't install them. It's the same with Maschine library for example, if you like the Controller/Software and dont like the library then dont install it.

I don't know which instruments you own. If they aren't working, then yes, you should contact them about that. I don't own any of their instruments, and can only go by what is on their actual website, and every single instrument I checked all say Kontakt Player Compatible at the bottom of the page. Eg:
    http://www.soniccouture.com/en/products/26-percussion/g22-array-mbira/
    http://www.soniccouture.com/en/products/26-percussion/g26-balinese-gamelan-ii/

    http://www.soniccouture.com/en/products/26-percussion/g43-grand-marimba/
    http://www.soniccouture.com/en/products/24-vintage/g51-ondioline/

If they say they are player compatible and they are not then it's fix it or refund time.

If you download the free Sonicoutre products you need a full version of kontakt.
You can use the kontakt player for all paid Sonicoutre downloads. :D
