Kontakt stalls when loading

Hello,

I'm having a problem that just started a few days ago. It started when I loaded up one of my Ableton Live sessions that had a kontakt patch loaded, and it hangs at "Resolving Sample References." So I had to kill the Live process in task manager. Tried this with several different sessions to the same effect.

I went into standalone and checked my database and was going to the correct one. Did an "update" & "scan and reset", both hanged at deleting invalid files.

Now I just decided to load a standalone session of kontakt and load a patch. It has now been sitting at "verifying files" for at least 20 minutes now. I'm at a loss of what to do.

I also updated Kontakt to the most recent version but that did not help.

I contacted NI Tech support but they've ignored my last 3 submission so I don't have any faith in them at all.

What can I do to fix this? Help is greatly appreciated

 

I hate to say this, but this might be bad news (corruption of the data).

Because it's an Ableton project, the Kontakt session data is stored within the Ableton project. So going into Kontakt standalone and loading the same patch(es) won't fix anything.

Do you have any clue what patches might have been in use in this project? Can you do a test, in Ableton, of loading the same patches, doing the same tweaks (if any), saving, and reopening?

I tried just loading any patch in kontakt and it just stalls on "verifying files." So it's not just any patch in particular, I think it's kontakt itself

 

That is real strange. Then you might have some kind of systemic problem. No idea...sorry. Maybe trash prefs and reinstall?

 

Ok. I was hoping to avoid to do a reinstall since I'm afraid of losing my patches I made in ableton...since I didn't save them (future reference for me to do).

So how would I go about trashing the preferences?

 

If I uninstall and reinstall Kontakt, would my patches still be in ableton or would I have to start from scratch?

PS: I tried to do a modify/repair on kontakt but that didn't work

 

An update

Tried uninstalling then reinstalling Kontakt (from Komplete 7), that still gave me all the hangups I've been encountering. Gonna try uninstalling Kontakt AND the libraries, to see if it was something corrupting something in there.

 

This is the problem I've been having with the beta!

Have you updated to the latest beta?

I got around it by doing another batch resave of all the kontakt instruments. It still does it occasionally but nowehere near as often, though i frequently load an instrument now and it wont load any samples until i click on relink or something. (cant remember exactly dont have kontakt in front of me)

 

I'm not using Beta, using the most recent official release. I'll look into batch resave after I'm done installing (Pending that this actually solves my problem)

well this is just great. Nothing has changed at all. Kontakt is useless and pretty much ruined my whole album since I can't load it at all and is in all my tracks. Thanks Native Instruments

 

SO figured out a temp fix. I open up Pro Tools and load a RTAS version of kontakt. That somehow fixes some database issues that I've been having. I can then open up my Ableton session and kontakt won't give me the "Resolving Sample References" hangup. I have to do this everytime I restart my comp pretty much

 

I am having the same problem with Kontakt 4 stalling due to "Resolving Sample References" on projects that I used Kontakt on. I use Presonus Studio One as my DAW. I contacted Tech Support and they told me to make sure I have the latest installers from the recent update. This didn't help me because I am already up to date according to the Service Center. I hope there is a solution to this soon.

 

I've been having a similar issue. Mac Book Pro, Snow Leopard, Ableton Live 8 - when loading Kontakt 4 plugin - spinning rainbow wheel. From experimentation, the issue seems to be resolved by removing the Kontakt 4_info.nkc and Kontakt 4_info.nkx files. However, I presume these are important - not sure what they are used for.

 

Well, that's very interesting (vo1k1). You can safely trash the NKC file -- that's an analysis file that Kontakt will regenerate whenever it needs it. If you find that solves the problem, that's a great and easy solution.

Trashing the NKX will definitely cause the custom graphics in the Kontakt factory library to be lost, but may also cause other secondary problems like the library not being recognized properly.

 

just a follow up on this. Stupidly my problem was related to some AV software.

Had that sophos scanner on my mac and completely forgot it was running in the background all the time. basically it seems that when you load a patch it tries to scan every single sample you load into memory hence why it takes so long, or it just flat out blocks the load request?

anyways on uninstalling kontakt loads super quick and i dont have any referencing issues anymore or kontakt hanging while 'verifying'

Ouch thats a bit harsh on yourself its not your fault that you have to have virus checkers .... unless you are a virus writer in you spare time of course in which case I hate you :angry: .....
