When opening a Logicsong with Kontakt plugins, or when opening a K-plugin in a song, Kontakt asks to open a connection to every single computer in the ethernet network.
Mac OS10.3.1, Logic 6.3.3, Appletalk off, Filesharing off.
It´s nearly impossible for us to work, cause we have a lot of computers connected to the ethernet in our studio, and you have to go through all the password-dialogues before opening a song or an Kontakt instance.
Anyone with an idea how to solve this?

And please, NI, come up with updates for the still VERY buggy OSX versions of Kontakt, Reaktor, Intakt. It´s hell to work with these as plugins in Logic under OSX. Graphic bugs, crashes,...

    One word: ANNOYING!

It didn't do it until I connected to other computers for other purposes. I had some success by disconnecting from everyone on the network, but then when I re-instanciated, they came back.

Why don't you just unplug the ethernet.

Unplugging my network is beside the point, and should have absolutely nothing to do with Kontakt. As it happens, I need to be connected as I am constantly sharing files

Thank you - might try it. Only thing is it isn't the real solution....

are you sure none of your instruments are referencing samples on network drives?

    Asking for password

I'm getting this as well on Panther with Pro Tools. Kontakt asks me for the password of another login when I try to open it. No biggie. Just annoying.

I tried to wrap the kontakt vst in the fxpansion vst-au adapter, and no more problems with trying to access the network. The logic graphics displacement dissapeared to. Is only the au affected?

I've been emailing tech support back and forth about this issue. Here's their response. In my case, I have 8 servers on my network, and Kontakt tries to log into all of them.

    First email:
    Hello,
This happens when network volumes that are mounted in the Kontakt browser are open (+). This is a feature and not a bug.
Please close the file tree for the network volumes if you do not wish to use this feature.
    Best regards,
    Dan Santucci

So, I told him there are no volumes mounted in the brower that are open, and he said to try this:

    2nd email:

    Hello,
It can be that if you have at one time accessed the network, and loaded samples from it, that this path would be remembered by Kontakt and written to the preference file. A possible outcome would be that by each start Kontakt tries to load the Last Path, or Searches preference and then you are asked to log in.

I suggest that you delete the Kontakt plist files (User>library>preferences) with the following names
    Kontakt_lastpaths.plist
    Kontakt_searches.plist
Let me know if this helps.
    Best regards,
    Dan Santucci

I emailed him back over a week ago and haven't receive a response....so I'm guessing this is a bug in the software and not anything wrong with what I'm doing. I have repeated this on a fresh panther install on a seperate computer. I have a third system here that uses Jaguar and this isn't a problem with Jaguar.

The reply from the Native guy is good inasmuch as it's a reply, but no good as it doesn't make much sense for me. I have never accessed an external drive from Logic for anything, and certainly not for accessing samples.

Same here. When I first sent him the question about network access, I told him that this is a brand new install. Here's how I setup a system: Format the hard drive, install system software, install protools software, install logic, then install plug-ins. If you go to the finder, there's a new network pane in each window. Panther has new way of browsing network servers...they all show up as alias in this pane. I've tried deleting them, but this doesn't work...they just show up if you have appletalk on.

Also, there's a windows server on my network that uses SMB networking....Kontakt tries to log into this one too...but I've never, ever used this server...

My guess is that they'll release an update in the future that will address this problem.

here's an idea... totally making this one up, but it would be neat if it worked. (i don't have anyway to test this as i'm the only computer in my house). try using the Directory Access utility and turning off everything. if the bug really does have to do with panther's new ability to browse the network through the finder, this should disable everything but your local network (local being the computer you are using). you may need to restart or at least log in/out before this really takes effect.

    no f....g way !

don´t take it personal and thanx for your input, BUT :
We payed the price for a professional software and that´s how we want to use it.
We have 2004, and we have to be able to be connected to the ethernet everytime we work. We have very tight delievery scedules in our studio and this bug nearly killed some jobs, cause Kontakt slows down our work extensively (We´re working sometimesa on up to 40 different versions of a song and have to be able to load them very quickly, and with up to 8 computers on the network this takes ......................................

Why stop at 40 different versions? I can tell you that a couple people (NI techs) have suggested that I just not use Kontakt until these bugs get fixed. It's a great program, but there's other samplers that I use in the meantime. If you're working on a session or project that's not using Kontakt, remove the plug-in from your Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components folder. Unfortunately, if you must use Kontakt, you have to deal with this bug. The good news is that I got an email from NI and they said that the next version of Kontakt will have an option to turn off network drives in the browser pane.

I see light at the end of...

thanx berla, this info saved my day. They admit and even want to change this subject ! I´m sure they didn´t tell U when this update will happen? If yes. please let me know. But after they´ve released the Intakt update today - maybe there´s some more in the pipeline ?
We tried to avoid the Kontakt in the last months and did the main work with the EXS (which is always my working horse sampler), but we have a huge library with sounds created on the Kontakt and we need some of them in every song.
