    Hi all

Is anyone successfully using Kontakt 3.5 or 4 (standalone or VST) on Windows 7 64-bit with an RME ASIO driver?

Here (with a Fireface 400) it instantly locks up the driver, and there's then no sound from any applications that use ASIO until I reboot the PC. :(

Another ASIO driver (Digidesign MBox2) works fine, as do all other NI synths.

If I run the 32-bit Kontakt 3.5 application (which I salvaged from my previous installation of Windows), the problems don't occur.

I have written to RME but wondered if any Kontakt users could share their experiences?

Update: I've edited the above, which initially referred only to Kontakt 3.5, but I've since experienced the same issue with Kontakt 4.1.3.

I haven't personally used the RME interfaces, but a few things to note:

    1) RME are known for really good hardware and drivers so it seems weird that it wouldn't work unless there's a hardware problem or a software corruption. Sure you're using the latest driver?

    2) You mentioned you tested both Kontakt standalone and VST. If you are using the standalone version, you're using Kontakt's audio engine. If you're using VST, you're using the host's audio engine, and Kontakt is simply passing its audio to the host.

So if you've truly tested both, then the problem isn't with Kontakt; it's an RME issue. That two applications (Kontakt and your host) would both have problems communicating with the RME properly means it's an RME issue, and you should take it up with their tech support.

    Thanks for the responses, chaps!

Martin, I can confirm that I'm running both the latest firmware and driver from the RME site.

David, I think your diagnosis is probably right (it's an RME problem, even though they have a good reputation). However, I will double-check that the problem with using Kontakt in my host didn't happen only after running the standalone version had caused the driver to stop making any sound.

The most intriguing aspect of the situation is that the 32-bit Kontakt application works fine.

Using Kontakt 4.1.3 on Windows 7 x64 with RME RayDAT and ASIO, driver version 3.85 without any problems whatsoever, all the way down to 32 samples buffer size on a Q6600.

Update - the problem happened in my host too. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the Fireface driver. In initial testing, the problem hasn't recurred. I'll keep an eye on it...

    Spoke too soon - despite working fine initially, it's messed up again;

Played Kontakt 3 (64 bit) with the RME ASIO driver - ok
Played Massive with the RME ASIO driver - ok
Played Kontakt 3 (64 bit) with the RME ASIO driver - no sound
...and from then on, no sound from any applications using the RME ASIO driver until I reboot the PC.

I have still not managed to reproduce the problem with the 32 bit version of Kontakt.

    :(

No reply yet from RME tech support, either.
